2. DEVELOPMENT OF A ROAD NETWORK
PLAN FOR SYLHET AGRICULTURAL
UNIVERSITY
Title of The Project
Supervisor: Dr. Md. Altaf
Hossain
Associate Professor and chairman,
Department of Agricultural Construction
and Environmental Engineering,
Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet
3. Introduction
A road is a way on land between two places that has
been paved or otherwise improved to allow travel by
foot or vehicles
The road network planning of a campus describes a
part of the University’s physical footprint
4. Road network planning of Sylhet Agricultural
University campuses has been a real challenge due to
its land limitation
Existing road network is declining due to
construction of new infrastructure
Therefore it is now essential to reconstructed the
existing road according to standard
5. Objectives
To know the existing road network facilities.
To identify necessary aspects for improvement.
To propose a suitable road network with existing
one.

35. Conclusion
The design of campus road network is very complex due to no
land use plan for its proper development. Planning for roads
associated environmental effects are often based on
socioeconomic consideration.
A detailed map of land use pattern will be developed which
will be revealed all important features as well as existing
condition of the university area. By using the road network
map we selected the problems and needs of the study area
according to affordable standards and prioritization.
Total existing road area is 3.12 acres which occupied 6.24% of
the study area.
The eight proposed road which occupied 0.942 acre of the study
area.
36. Recommendations
Finally we try to suggest a reasonable road network for
the campus is the following way :
The first and second position in priority table are
‘Entrance road in front of new gent’s hall’ and ‘Road
beside playground’ respectively. But according to the
present security condition, Road inside boundary
wall should be constructed first which is in third
position.
37. Recommendations
Entrance road in front of New Gents hall is not
necessary due to this new hall is under
construction
Most of the pucca road is poor condition for
vehicles transportation due to those roads are used
for construction purposes which needed to
reconstructed.
Stuff quarter interconnecting roads and all other
brick soling roads are need to be developed
immediately according to standard.
38. Adequate bicycle stand is required to fulfill
the parking demand.
Finally, all the roads should be developed or
replaced by reinforcement concrete(RCC)
road because the RCC road more durable and
effective than the others.
