The document discusses strengthening producer societies in Sri Lanka to help vulnerable farmers. It describes how producer societies can be established to help farmers unite, address problems, and improve well-being. The document outlines criteria for selecting producer societies to strengthen, such as those that are registered but not functioning well. It then discusses providing training, inputs, infrastructure support, and other resources to strengthen selected producer societies and help them develop business plans and marketing linkages to stabilize their operations and increase income. Ultimately, well-functioning producer societies can be registered as Agro-Business Groups with authority over production, marketing, and investment decisions to further benefit farmers.
