ISO 30401 - Introduction (0.2 d)
Organizations can no longer rely on the spontaneous diffusion of knowledge to
keep up with the pace of change.
Instead knowledge must be deliberately created, consolidated, applied and
reused faster than the rate of change.
4. Message from the ISO 30401 Committee
ISO KM Committee says to keep in mind …
Given the nature of “managing knowledge,” an International Standard on KM will never be the most leading
edge thinking and practice, nor should it be.
… But a KM Standard aims to develop a global body of knowledge, based on global collaboration, a
commonality, and a professional approach.

7. Claiming ISO Conformance
How do you achieve ISO 30401 Conformance?
7
To claim conformance with an ISO standard, an organization needs evidence that it is meeting the
requirements (typically done through an audit).
Audit Types:
First-party = internal audit
Second-party = external audit
Third-party audit = external audit that can result in certification
Note:
• Accreditation is not compulsory,
• and non-accreditation does not necessarily mean it is not reputable,
• but accreditation does provide independent confirmation of your organizations’ competence
