What’s that mean?
Well if you’ve gone to the trouble of ﬁnding content, make it easy for
other folks like you to beneﬁt from that leg work. You may become a
trusted source for the kind of content you are all about.


BE SMART

Create a hub for yourself. Give you and your readers,
customers, community a place to reach you online.

In order to be smart you need to consider the consequence of
things. So...you have to have rules.

Deﬁne your policy; What will you do for free? What will you be
paid for (they should be different)?


BE SMART

How will you manage credibility. If you ghost write or manage
another’s blog or stream you need to decided how you will operate.
If not transparent then diligent, or else you may lose credibility.

If/When you make a mistake, admit it, apologize, and move on.

Diligent? Consider this.
If you read a statement that said Mrs. Butterworth was the best in the
whole world and you believed that “voice”, how would you feel later
to know the same “voice” was also speaking on behalf of Aunt Jemima?
Would the “voice” lose credability?


KNOW YOURSELF

If you don’t know you, who does?

What is your genre? What is your tone? What are
your passions?

We are a world that respects specialists and ignores
generalists - know that and use it to your advantage.

Perfection can paralyze. Do not let perfect get in the
way of progress.


KNOW YOURSELF

Work on doing the stuff you love and you will grow as
a writer, producer, and thought leader.
You will grow by leaps and bounds.

Focusing on the things you aren’t good at and striving
for incremental improvements in those areas will only
return incremental improvements.


ASK FOR WORK

Be bold, find a mentor and ask for help.

Be brazen, find work you can do well and then find the
path of people that will lead you to that job.

Use social networking tools to help you find that path of
people.


BUILD RELATIONSHIPS

Did we mention it’s about relationships?
Online you can “know” lots of people and access who
and what they know if you’re playing by the rules.

Be approachable and easy to access.

Remember your rules, play by them and always pay it
forward.


SEARCH EFFECTIVELY


SEO
When you write, do you think about SEO?
You should.

Do you know how and where to ﬁnd hot
keywords?
You should.

Do you know where your work is published and
track back to your site(s) from those publications?
You should.


SEO
Think about working backwards a little bit.

Find out what words are “buzzing” and write about
the hot topics of “now” to generate more visibility
for your work.

Use social media as an arm and a leg but
remember that traditional PR is still a strong asset.
Don’t ignore it.
