supporting knowledge differently
• Process mapping shows how something is done / document
processes.
• Knowledge mapping illustrates the relationships of knowledge.
• Mind mapping illustrates the results of knowledge acquired through
brainstorming.

Communities of Practice

• Communities of practice (CoPs) are a group of individuals focused on
a similar interest or set of goals.
• CoPs can be easily created. A challenge is getting organic interest and
participation unless you assign participants to a CoP. Knowledge
sharing in the community grows as the relationships between the
members grow.
• To be effective, a CoP should have a lead for a CoP and have full
representation from each part of the organization with authorization
to make decisions for their respective part of the organization.
CoPs are important to KM because they give an organization a method
of coordinating efforts as a team while considering the big picture vice
just their area.

Kanban
• Method of managing process
workflow
• Visual product showing process
phases of “To do,” “Doing,” and
“Done.”
• Gives an immediate status
update of the workflow.

Kanban is important in KM because it can provide an instant overview of
the workflow process that anyone can understand as well as show areas
that may need cross-functional knowledge support.
Gamification

• Defined as:
o Incentivizing engagement in non-games using games or gaming rules
o Leverages people's natural tendencies for competition, achievement, collaboration,
and charity.
o Rewarding users for achievements, "leveling-up," and earning badges, are carried
into the real world to help motivate individuals to achieve their goals or boost
performance.
o Having important measures: level of engagement, influence, brand loyalty, time
spent on an activity, and the game's ability to go viral.
• Similar programs include ones that reward frequent flier miles, grocery
store gas dollars, coffee stars, and pet supply dollars for participation
Encourages knowledge sharing between employees and teams

Battle Rhythms

• A basic battle rhythm will ensure one meeting supports another meeting
by being placed in the correct order.
• Organizations will more than one battle rhythm will need to be de-
conflicted them.
• Example: Finance has a meeting monthly to discuss program spending. To
support this monthly meeting:
o TUES – Business analysts (BAs) meet to review spending with PMs
o WEDS – BAs the PMs meet with the directors to discuss the results of the Tuesday
meeting
o THUR – PMs and directors meet with finance
• Battle rhythms should allow some flexibility in case one meeting move, the
others can reasonably support.
Battle rhythms support KM because they provide a schedule of events that
support knowledge sharing and problem-solving.

  • 10. Communities of Practice 12 • Communities of practice (CoPs) are a group of individuals focused on a similar interest or set of goals. • CoPs can be easily created. A challenge is getting organic interest and participation unless you assign participants to a CoP. Knowledge sharing in the community grows as the relationships between the members grow. • To be effective, a CoP should have a lead for a CoP and have full representation from each part of the organization with authorization to make decisions for their respective part of the organization. CoPs are important to KM because they give an organization a method of coordinating efforts as a team while considering the big picture vice just their area. © 2022 CJ YOUNG CONSULTING, LLC

Gamification 14 • Defined as: o Incentivizing engagement in non-games using games or gaming rules o Leverages people's natural tendencies for competition, achievement, collaboration, and charity. o Rewarding users for achievements, "leveling-up," and earning badges, are carried into the real world to help motivate individuals to achieve their goals or boost performance. o Having important measures: level of engagement, influence, brand loyalty, time spent on an activity, and the game's ability to go viral. • Similar programs include ones that reward frequent flier miles, grocery store gas dollars, coffee stars, and pet supply dollars for participation Encourages knowledge sharing between employees and teams © 2022 CJ YOUNG CONSULTING, LLC

Battle Rhythms 15 • A basic battle rhythm will ensure one meeting supports another meeting by being placed in the correct order. • Organizations will more than one battle rhythm will need to be de- conflicted them. • Example: Finance has a meeting monthly to discuss program spending. To support this monthly meeting: o TUES – Business analysts (BAs) meet to review spending with PMs o WEDS – BAs the PMs meet with the directors to discuss the results of the Tuesday meeting o THUR – PMs and directors meet with finance • Battle rhythms should allow some flexibility in case one meeting move, the others can reasonably support.
