• Served as Prime Minister of England twice
(1940–45 and 1951–55).
• Appointed as First Lord of the Admiralty during
world war I & II.
• A noted statesman and orator and also an
officer in the British Army.
• Only British prime minister to have received the
Nobel Prize in Literature.

• Born on 30 November 1874
• Father: Randolph Churchill, a Conservative
politician
• Mother: Jennie Jerome, the daughter of Leonard
Jerome, a New York businessman
• Went to St George's School, Brunswick School
and then to Harrow School.

MILITARY LIFE
• Attended the Royal Military College,
Sandhurst
• Commissioned as a Cornet (Second
Lieutenant) in the 4th Queen's Own Hussars on
20 February 1895
• Churchill was First Lord of the Admiralty at the
start of the First World War

• Won the seat of Oldham at the 1900 general
election.
• In 1910 he was promoted to Home Secretary.
• In 1911 he became the First Lord of the
Admiralty.
• In1919 became Minister of War and Air
