Karen King brings more than 30 years of experience in the non-profit, healthcare and public sector to her practice.
She has worked for grassroots organizations, state healthcare departments, housing/community development
organizations and community based healthcare agencies. Her expertise is the result of having worked as a program
director, middle, and executive manager. In all of her work Ms. King provides a mission based approach guided by

Strategic & Organizational Planning/Project Management
Ensure that departmental and organizational planning is consistent with the overall mission and vision. In depth analysis of internal and
external environments, inclusion of all stakeholders, adherence to necessary timelines and researched projection of future needs and potential
resources. Experience: Annual, 3 and 5 year strategic plans developed with community based health care and social service organizations,

Executive Transitions
Assist and work collaboratively with staff and Boards of Directors during a transition phase within an organization. Ensure the continued
stability and growth as the organization moves toward hiring a permanent executive. Experience: Karen was an
affiliated consultant with the Executive Transition Program of TSNE and has held interim executive positions in area non-profits.

Medicaid managed care in an outpatient clinic, development of critical incident reporting and analysis system, instituted quality
improvement system and developed systems for licensing, regulations, and accreditation in healthcare, CDFIs, and community
development organizations.

company as a whole. Experience: Leadership role in two organizational mergers, executive management role during a conscious
change of culture experience, experience as Interim Executive during organizational transitions, significant interpersonal skills as a
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and participation in numerous agency reorganizations.

Accreditation, Licensing and Regulatory Management
Non-profits whether healthcare institutions, child welfare agencies, behavioral health organizations, community development or
educational institutions often have governmental and private accreditation standards to follow. Learn how to integrate these standards
into your everyday operations. Make the standards work for you and the people that you serve by using them to improve your
efficiency and effectiveness. Experience: Executive manager responsible for all licensing and regulatory oversight including JCAHO,
state and federal program licensing, implementation of HIPAA standards and corporate compliance. Accomplishments with clients:

Program Development/Contract Management
Developing a solid array of programs and services in an uncertain funding world is necessary for all nonprofit organizations.
Assisting new and seasoned managers with the skills of program development from concept to ongoing daily management is critical.
New services must fit your mission and align with available resources. Assistance in analysis of program options from mission fit
through resource availability and when to take that “risk” on something new and dynamic. Experience: 18 years of program
development experience in both the public and private nonprofit sectors, development of RFPs and grant proposals. Specialized

Staff and Board Development
Staff is your most important resource and your Board your most important public relations tool in the community. Value staff through
regular supervision, professional development and opportunities for growth within the organization. Create an active Board. Work to
create Board and staff teams with varied experience and expertise. Value diversity of skills and backgrounds. Experience: 20 years
of supervisory experience with Master’s and Doctoral level professionals, BA level direct care staff, allied health staff and
administrative support staff. 27 years work with Boards as a non-profit manager and as a member of several Boards of Directors.
Development and implementation of staff and management training programs. Accomplishments with clients:
• Comprehensive Board development and training for a small non-profit with Founding Director
• Complete staff training series for homeless family service workers
• Management team training and development trainings with several client teams
• Diversity education training with schools and non-profits
Meeting Planning and Facilitation
Important meetings with internal or external stakeholders can benefit from facilitation by an outside professional. These facilitated
events include planning sessions, retreats, interdepartmental meetings or negotiation meetings. Experience: 30 years of experience in
meeting facilitation including coalition building, Board of Directors, grassroots issues meetings, negotiation sessions and multi-
departmental team projects.

Rates and Contracts
Services are available in a consultative or training format, for individuals and groups. I tailor my work to individual organizations and
do not bring a canned approach or single method to consultation. Whether working with Boards, Staff or Executive Management my
goal is to design a proposal that fits with your goals, mission and culture. The individualized nature of my practice is based on using
respected tools and methodology within the unique context of your organization Consultation is available on site and via phone
conferences. Fee is established based on the project, its’ duration and assessed expenses. Sliding fees are available to small non-
profits and grassroots organizations. Projected project duration, services to be provided and fees are presented to the organization for
approval prior to initiation of the contract.
