Addendum – Animal Welfare Activities
Animal Shelter Manager, Animal Behaviourist/ Trainer/ Humane Educator, Welfare Worker
Managing Shelter Operations
Developing specific training plans for all clients after analysing special needs
Updating and developing all foster program materials including recruitment material,
guidelines, handbook, and miscellaneous documents
Maintaining files, records, and statistics pertaining to intake, adoptions, miscellaneous
outcomes
Maintaining a medical database on a daily basis for all veterinary requirements such as
vaccinations, follow ups, and scheduling veterinary appointments for shelter animals.
Maintaining up to date animal profileson multiple online sites with current photographs and
bios
Maintaining intake/outcome paperwork, adoption inquiries, preparing adoption paperwork,
adoption processing and adoption follow up
Monitoring recommendations on all aspects of the shelter operations including shelter staff,
shelter maintenance and cleaning procedures, volunteer procedures, customer service and
adoption counselling.
Ensuring safe interactions between the public and shelter animals
Ensuring all policies and procedures are followed through daily inspections of the facilities
Scheduling grooming appointments and handling grooming customer service
Maintaining and tracking supply
Promptly responding to phone calls, emails, message inquiries
Working cooperatively to train and supervise volunteers, giving positive recognition and
feedback when needed.
Managing Foster Care Programs:
Maintaining an organized list of current foster assignments, future foster family requirements
and availability
Maintaining documentation of foster applications and yearly home visit documentation for all
current, potential and previous foster families
Identifying families with appropriate foster animals based on their needs and situation
Overseeing, picking up and returning of foster animals and assuring foster families have all
the necessary supplies, paperwork, and all medical records regarding the foster animal
Providing assistance and counselling to foster families and coordinating with foster families to
attend adoption events
Making home visits prior to approving or denying foster applications
Managing Adoption Campaigns, and Customer Service:
Providing quality customer service while promoting Animal House’s mission, services,
programs and events to adopters, donors, potential adopters, volunteers, grooming clients
and supporters
Cultivating positive relationships with volunteers and co-workers through professional,
courteous and educational interactions
Providing counsel and education to adopters regarding training, placement and care of
animals
Developing and overseeing Volunteer Customer Service Program including supervising,
training and scheduling
