Super Size Me

An American documentary by Morgan Spurlock which was aired in Cinema’s
on May 7th 2004. It follows 30 days of Spurlock (February 1st to March 2nd
2003) just eating McDonalds Food. His aim was to eat at a McDonalds three
times in a day and he had to eat at least every item on the menu at least once.
The Documentary shows the effect McDonalds gives on his physical and
psychological well being. He experienced mood swings, sexual dysfunction and
fat accumulation on his liver as a result of this. It then took him 14 months to
lose the weight he gained which was 24 and a half lbs after eating 5000 kcal a
day.

4. Themes in the film..
Health
The effects of the fast food made Morgan very ill,
it caused effect on his physical and psychological
well being as well as causing sexual dysfunction
and mood swings. He also gained fat
accumulation in his liver.
Fast Food
It documents the effect of eating too much fast
foods and the amount of calories in them to do
the damage it does.
5. Target audience in the
film..
Super size me is targeted to 12 years and up,
considering the classification is 12. This is merely
because young children may not understand the
concept of the film and also the bad language
used and sexual references. However, these
scenes could easily not have been used, but he
chose to keep them, making it not suitable for
children below the age of 12. It is also a sort of
life lesson for these age groups of the effects of
fast food, trying to teach them not too eat too
much of it, potentially one a month.
6. Summary..
The reason behind his investigation was due to
the increasing speed of obesity throughout the
USA.
He wanted to do the documentary himself
because he feared someone else may cheat
