2. QUESTION 3:
What kind of media institution
might distribude your media
product and why?
3. DREAMWORKS
PICTURES
I decided to research Dreamworks
Pictures because I already knew that
they produced the legendary horror
movie The Ring
4. I used various sources and databases,
mainly IMDB to find out if they hae produced
any other horror movies, to see how
successful they were and if they have any
similarities with our media product.
5. Dreamworks has produced at least nine
horror movies, two of them have been
produced in past two years:
● Shark Night 3D (2011)
● Frigh Night (2011)
● The Uninvited (2009)
● The Ruins (2008)
● 30 Days of Night (2007)
● Paranormal Activity (2007)
The Ring, The Ring 2 (2002, 2005)
6. SIMILLARITIES
● In many horror movies which were
distributed by Dreamworks there were
teenage characters, similarly as in our
opening sequence
● Large number of horror storylines are
based on a woman fighting against the
villian. In our movie the girl will be facing
her father coming for revenge
7. SIMILLARITIES
● In Paranormal Activity, amateur camera
shots are used. This can be compared to
our opening sequence, because our
equipment and skills are far from
professional Hollywood producers
therefore can be deemed amateur
8. PROFITS & AWARDS
● The most recent horror film by
Dreamworks, Shark Night, has made over
$18 mil. gross profit and has moved up 13
places in past week (4.3.) in IMDB rank
(despite its very low rating)
9. PROFITS & AWARDS
● Fright Night - over $18 mil. gross profit, 4
award wins & 1 nomination
● Paranormal Activity - 3 award wins & 7
nominations, $107 mil. gross profit
● The Ring – 11 award wins & 6
nominations, $128 mil. gross profit
10. From all this information and data I would
conclude that Dreamwork Pictures would
be ideal for distribution of our movie
because:
● They have experience with horror movie
distribution and they have been very
successful
● Our product has most simillarities with their
two most successful horror movies
(Paranormal Activity, The Ring)
