14. Extensions and Special Consideration
If you believe you need a short extension of time to complete an assignment, please email me
before the assignment due date, with;
– Your name and student number
– The time you think you need
– The reason you are seeking an extension.
If your request is approved, you will receive a reply advising a new due date. Otherwise, late
penalties as advised in the Subject Outline will apply. Please see the following slide regarding
situations which may warrant an extension.
Please note: Due to end of session deadlines, extensions for the
second assessment task will only be granted in situations where
there is extenuating circumstances.
15. Examples of what would warrant an extension:
• Emergency issues that unexpectedly impact health, illness or disability
• Death/serious illnesses of a family/partner/close friend
• Extreme events, such as weather catastrophe, major political/social upheaval
• Substantial and disruptive change to regular employment responsibilities
• Sporting representation (state, national, international) or cultural commitments
• Military commitments
• Legal commitments (e.g. Jury duty)
Examples that would not warrant an extension:
• Regular work and volunteer responsibilities
• Regular study responsibilities, including completing assessment tasks in other subjects
• Starting the assessment task just before the due date
• Regular sport events or extra-curricular activities
• Regular family and social responsibilities, including moving house
• Holidays and social events
• Technical issues and loss of data/work (files need to be regularly backed up in multiple areas)
• Lack of internet access
• Time zone differences
