Mobile UHF RFID reading
Where are mobile UHF Readers required?
• Stock takes – perform full store inventory many
times more quickly than having to find and read
each item level barcode.
• Retail at front / back of store – verify goods
inwards match paperwork, quickly find items to
allow front of store to be replenished, find mis-shelved
items in front of store.
• Asset management – rapid inventory of assets,
storing maintenance/inspection records on the
asset where WAN connectivity is not guaranteed.
DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
Where are mobile UHF Readers required?
• Distribution – reading/writing data to tags on
pallets and roll cages before loading onto vehicles.
• Document tracking – use ‘find-a-tag’ mode to
locate a folder. Manage document check in /
check out.
• Exception scanning – where an item cannot for
some reason be read by standard fixed / portal
readers. Maybe it is too bulky, or the tag is too
small.
DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
A few limitations of current mobile UHF RFID reader devices
• End Users have to buy the reader and handheld together. When
one is obsolete both must be replaced.
• Existing handheld mobile computers are no longer any use and
must be thrown away when new mobile readers are purchased
• Incompatible with BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and BYOP (Bring
Your Own Phone) schemes.
• Performance constraints – read range, read rate, tag singulation,
write performance, battery life (run time) etc
• Choice of mobile device operating system / user interface is
limited to whatever the mobile reader offers. This may not match what
the end user wants.
• In situations where the majority of the mobile device usage is not for
RFID the user can end up with an unnecessarily large and
cumbersome dual technology handheld.

Why the 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader is Different - TSL

  • 1.
  • 2. Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd • Is an innovative electronics company based in Central England offering both products and services in and around the AutoID mobile market space • Designs and manufactures peripherals for ruggedised hand held terminals • Founded in 1993 • ISO 9001:2008 company • Manufactures ruggedised snap-on and Bluetooth/WiFi peripherals • Portfolio consists of: ü Standard products ü Custom products ü Contract development with manufacturing (OEM and ODM) DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 3. Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd • TSL has extensive experience in the design and manufacture of both embedded and snap-on accessories for handheld computer terminals, using technologies including: ü Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) – LF, HF, UHF and Active ü Bluetooth ü Contact and contactless Smart cards ü Finger biometrics ü Magnetic card readers ü GSM/GPRS ü CDMA ü Global Positioning System (GPS) ü Temperature measurement ü Embedded laser bar code scanning and imaging • TSL designs and manufactures embedded RF solutions for: ü Wide Area Network (WAN) ü Local Area Network (LAN) ü Personal Area Network (PAN) DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 4. More specifically, TSL RFID Readers: Ultra High Frequency RFID High Frequency RFID Low frequency RFID DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 5. More specifically still - UHF RFID Readers 1128 Bluetooth ® UHF RFID Reader 1097 Bluetooth ® UHF RFID and Barcode Wearable Hand Scanner 1126 Desktop UHF RFID Reader with USB 1101 UHF RFID reader for the Motorola MC70/75/75A 1119 UHF RFID Reader for the Motorola MC55/65/67 DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 6. Mobile UHF RFID reading
  • 7. Where are mobile UHF Readers required? • Stock takes – perform full store inventory many times more quickly than having to find and read each item level barcode. • Retail at front / back of store – verify goods inwards match paperwork, quickly find items to allow front of store to be replenished, find mis-shelved items in front of store. • Asset management – rapid inventory of assets, storing maintenance/inspection records on the asset where WAN connectivity is not guaranteed. DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 8. Where are mobile UHF Readers required? • Distribution – reading/writing data to tags on pallets and roll cages before loading onto vehicles. • Document tracking – use ‘find-a-tag’ mode to locate a folder. Manage document check in / check out. • Exception scanning – where an item cannot for some reason be read by standard fixed / portal readers. Maybe it is too bulky, or the tag is too small. DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 9. A few limitations of current mobile UHF RFID reader devices • End Users have to buy the reader and handheld together. When one is obsolete both must be replaced. • Existing handheld mobile computers are no longer any use and must be thrown away when new mobile readers are purchased • Incompatible with BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) schemes. • Performance constraints – read range, read rate, tag singulation, write performance, battery life (run time) etc • Choice of mobile device operating system / user interface is limited to whatever the mobile reader offers. This may not match what the end user wants. • In situations where the majority of the mobile device usage is not for RFID the user can end up with an unnecessarily large and cumbersome dual technology handheld. DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 10. Why the 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader is Different!
  • 11. What makes the 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader different? • Works with ANY Bluetooth host device • any device with standard Bluetooth SPP • wide range of host terminals are supported • Modular design allows you to configure the hardware for your specific requirements • Keep your installed base of handheld terminals • Use low cost host consumer devices such as iPod Touch and cheap Android phones • BYOD and BYOP now possible to provide high performance UHF RFID • Even stronger ROI when not replacing existing handheld devices! DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
  • 12. Use with your choice of host device – phone, tablet, PC • Compatible with any Bluetooth® wireless technology enabled host device Apple iPad Air® Motorola ET1 Apple iPad® 2 / 3 Apple iPad mini® Motorola MC2100 Motorola MC45 Samsung Galaxy S1/S2/S3/S4 Google Nexus 7 Apple iPhone® 5C Motorola MC40 Apple iPhone® (4th & 5th Generation) Samsung Galaxy Note 1/2/3 Mac Laptops and Desktops Windows Laptops and Desktops Laptops and Desktop PCs Motorola ES400 Apple iPod touch® (4th & 5th Generation) Nokia Lumia DESIGN • DEVELOPMENT • MANUFACTURE Copyright © 2013 Technology Solutions (UK) Ltd
