The Project Technical Lead responsible for leading teams to develop solutions and produce associated
designs to enable the successful delivery of projects. My client has a great opportunity for a dedicated
and focused Project Technical Lead to lead a major civil infrastructure diversion project. The project
scope is to produce a feasibility study for the required diversion of Severn Trent Waters’ sewerage and
potable assets in preparation for HS2 Phase1.
You will supervise a team of Engineers and Technicians in the production of feasibility studies for the
necessary diversions. The scope encompasses; planning the anticipated 50+ individual diversions,
management of 3rd
party liaison and statutory approvals, resource management and responsibility for the
technical content of the proposals..
There is a likelihood that the role will extend into the D&C delivery phase of the project, with the potential
for technical management of outline & detail design, construction drawings, specifications and technical
reports. As such, previous experience of working within a Design & Construct environment would be
preferable.
In this role you will be required to take a hands-on approach to manage the delivery of study and design
output to ensure that the selected solutions and the delivery process both satisfy the scope of works and
provide value for money. You will be required to communicate across delivery teams to ensure that
delivery is being achieved within acceptable quality, cost and schedule parameters and take proactive
action to support project teams to achieve their goals. There will be a strong emphasis on Stakeholder
management and good communications skills will be vital. You will need to understand the activity of the
project teams, identify and manage programme risk items, and ensure good technical governance
procedures are followed.
The key functions of the role can be summarised as;
• To be responsible for leading project technical teams to develop and efficiently deliver
effective technical solutions on projects
• Develop budget and schedule targets in conjunction with Project Managers
• Work with Project Managers to deliver the agreed technical scope, on time and on budget.
• Close liaison with Client and other utility representatives - ensuring Client endorsement of
solutions
• Co-ordinate multi-disciplinary activities and inputs by the technical team, including specialist
inputs, to ensure an integrated technical solution
• Ensure all technical outputs conform to the project scope, are safe and are of an appropriate
quality that has been confirmed by an independent review
• Build strong working relationships with clients and contractors.
• Maintain reliable and consistent communications with all members of project teams

• Ensuring Technical Reviews and risk assessments are undertaken as required.

• Leading technical challenge sessions to ensure value for money solutions
• Ensuring the use of delivery systems as applicable
Candidate Requirements:
To be successful in this role you will be a dedicated and experienced chartered professional with a
detailed technical understanding of the issues affecting delivery of civil infrastructure projects. You will
have extensive experience working successfully in delivering feasibility projects and ideally have
experience of the process of detailed design delivery. You will have experience leading multi-
disciplined design teams delivering significant projects within the water sector and will have
experience working on programmes of work in a management capacity.
The role requires strong organisational, communication and inter-personal skills, and the experience and
knowledge to identify areas of improvement and make necessary adjustments to the business process.
Technical management is an essential element of the ethos and those who undertake these roles should
be aware of the significant expectations and accountability placed on them to deliver these requirements.
