1. Tips For Exhibition Marketing-Part 1

Being a huge advocate for digital marketing this may seem like a bizarre thing
for me to promote, however sometimes having an exhibition stand is the perfect
way to get in front of your target market. Especially if you are business that
needs to reach other businesses as catching the decision maker on a phone
can be hard slog.
I used to be the Event Director for The Restaurant Show and Organex (an
Organic food and drink expo) both of which were in London. Both were
outstanding exhibitions and delivered great customers to exhibitors and also a
great networking opportunity.
It is with my extensive experience that I can put together a list of what you need
to do to achieve maximum results and make your life easier.
Part 1
1. Make sure you have more than one person on the stand.
Running an exhibition is stand is very tiring and a full time job. If it is a busy
exhibition (which if you have chosen wisely it should be) then you wont even
have time to go for a bathroom break. You need to make sure that there are
enough people to work the stand, ensuring that your exhibition stand is not left
unmanned. It can cost 1000′s to have a stand, you don’t want to leave it empty.
2. Make sure you are not wearing your carpet slippers and a shell suit!
Unless this is what your business sells you need to be dressed
appropriately. Wearing relaxed clothing in a business environment is not
conducive to getting the sale and making a good first impression. A business
suit or a uniform will be the perfect choice, and if your company is a relaxed
company try and ensure you look smart at least. I wouldn’t want to buy for a
scruffy looking lout, would you?
3. Wear flat shoes.
I used to pound exhibitions floors for days on end. Some of the European
Exhibitions I used to work could last 9 days. That is a long time to be on your
2. feet, especially as most days are 10-12 hours long, and with little sitting time.
Wear flat shoes if you are a woman, and, no matter how tempted you may be to
take your shoes off and give your feet an airing half way through the day try and
resist temptation. you wouldn’t get your shoes on comfortable again. Feet swell
when hot, and you will find that you may not get your shoes back on again!.
4. Drink plenty of water and eat apples.
Drink water, plenty of it. You will be tempted to take pro-plus, drink caffeine and
eat carbohydrate food but my advice is to resist. Water and apples are proven
to help you stay more alert and awake than caffeine and carbohydrates will
send you to sleep. Water, apples, protein, these are what you need. Need an
injection of energy, a smoothy or a juice drink is the way forward. I learnt the
hard way.
5. Ensure you stand on the corner of the street.
Ok, you may be looking at this after you have decided to exhibit and have
already booked your stand, but I advise you to take a corner stand where
possible (two sides to capture the visitors) and also have it in the centre of the
exhibition. Too near the front and people will walk past you and not notice you.
If the exhibition is a little slow and you have it too near the back you may get
overlooked. Centre on a corner, every time!
