Mattress Firm June 2015
Cool Tech Solves Hot Topic
by: Kenneth Evans
Hey MFRM Nation! Ever wished you could
warm up your bed in the wintertime? Or
maybe it's hot outside, and you wished you
could make your bed just as cool on your
skin as the AC blowing through your
house. Chances are that our guests have
felt that way about their beds too.
The lines between technology and sleep
are thinning every day, thanks to various
ways we can now customize our support
and comfort to match our own individual
preferences. Now there's another way we
can personalize our sleep: temperature!
Many of our guests are concerned about
sleeping too hot or too cold on their
mattress. The Atmos mattress is a new
product line that uses innovative
technology to solve this problem, and it's
now being offered exclusively at Mattress
Firm!
Every part of the Atmos has been designed
for optimum airflow, along with gelinfused
contouring comfort and support, including
the foam springs in the core zone!
Controlled wirelessly by a handheld
remote, heated or cooled air can be blown
through either side of the allfoam,
breathable mattress at the touch of a
button.
Which markets will get the Atmos first, you
ask? Well, get ready Kansas City,
because it's scheduled to arrive there in
June 2015, followed by Minneapolis and
Orlando in July! Click here to find more
info on the Atmos, so you’ll be ready when
it comes to your market!
This new bedding technology is a result of
the partnership between Mattress Firm and
Gentherm, a leader and innovator in
thermal management technology. This
technology is perfect for luxury bedding, as
it provides the best comfort and
individualized control. It’s used in a broad
range of products, including
temperaturecontrolled luxury car seats!
So there you have it, MFRM Nation! The
Atmos is another hot item with some pretty
cool features that our guests will love, and
it's only found here at Mattress Firm!
The new Atmos bed adjusts the warm or cool air
blowing through your bed to your comfort level.
2,500 miles, 12 people, 10 days, 8 cities, 1 bus!
8 Cities in 10 Days!
by: Kenneth Evans
Thank you, MFRM Nation, for another
successful BedTalks On the Road tour! In
2015, we successfully visited 8 different
AMAZING cities in only 10 days!
We traveled a total of 2500 miles for this
tour, which equals nearly 46 hours if we
went 55 miles per hour the whole way.
That’s nearly enough time to watch four
uninterrupted seasons of your favorite
Netflix show!
This trip we were joined by our CEO,
Steve Stagner, and Dale Carsen, founder
of Sleep Train! Each year we do this event
to celebrate our successes, share our
strategic vision of the Gr8 Transformation,
and remind ourselves why people love our
company!
Each market was so inspiring; matching
our energy and enthusiasm at each stop!
We love this amazing MFRM family and
the culture we have here.
We also want to thank all of you who
commented on our bus tour blog! Since
we can’t visit every market in the country
in just 8 days, we love connecting with you
online through our posts, photos, and
polls about our trip.
You all make this trip so much fun each
year, and we can’t wait to get back out on
the road and do it again (EVEN BIGGER)
in 2016. From all 12 of us who traveled out
to spend time with you, we thank you for
helping us kick off a FANTASTIC summer
selling season!
5 Things to Learn in 5 Minutes
by: Kenneth Evans
Andrea Waltz and Richard Fenton use their book
to teach us how to use failure to build courage.
Many of us have avoided trying something
new, simply because we’re afraid of failing at
it. Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz cowrote
Go For No, a book that wants to teach us that
we’re capable of great success if we’re willing
to welcome rejection! Here are 5 things that
we can learn from their book:
1. Determine what you can learn from
a failure. Thomas Edison didn’t invent
the first successful model of a lightbulb
on his first try. However, each time he
failed, he learned more about his
designs, and how improve them!
Because of his perseverance, history
remembers him as the man who
invented the first patent of the modern
lightbulbs we have today.
2. Set a goal for how many times you
can be told no. Push yourself to see
how many different ways you can
accomplish something. George
Washington Carver discovered over
300 different uses for peanuts just by
continuing to research the possibilities!
3. After a failure, move on to the next
idea quickly! If you avoid asking
anyone to dance because you’re afraid
of being told no, you’ll miss out on the
enjoyment of your favorite song, and
the fun of dancing with someone else!
4. Many people say no at least 4 times
before they say yes. We can see this
principle in baseball players at bat.
They may earn one strike, or two, or
even three! However, they have a
greater chance of actually hitting the
baseball if they continue to swing away
at every pitch.
5. Be willing to fail! Fear of rejection is
like a fear of falling, and success is like
a passion for flying. When you think
about it, a bird can’t fly through the air
without first dropping off a high branch
or cliff! We are the same way, and
have to be willing to take that first step
out of our comfort zones to achieve
success!
So now you’re ready to take on the world and
do things that may scare you, but you’ll
surprise yourself in the process! After reading
Go For No, you’ll continue to build your
courage, and seek out the word ‘no’ every
chance you get!

New Home for Mattress Firm
by: Kenneth Evans
Mattress Firm moves into its new corporate
headquarters in SW Houston by June 2016.
For the last two years, Mattress Firm has achieved our strategic expansion to become
the nation’s largest specialty bedding retailer. We're very excited to now announce that
we're consolidating our two Houston offices to move into one corporate campus!
This property will provide us with the additional space to continue our focus on growth
and development. More than 350 employees will transition to the new
130,000squarefoot headquarters by June 2016.
The new campus will feature more parking and an onsite cafeteria, with more
workstations and larger conference centers to increase productivity. This Southwest
Houston location is also close to major highways and many popular shopping, dining,
and entertainment options. Future additions to the campus may include an onsite gym,
wellness center, walking trails and sleep centers.
For nearly the last three decades, we’ve called Houston home since our founding there
in 1986. It was very important that we find a space that kept us close to the center of the
city we are so committed to!
This new facility is another milestone in the history we share with the city of Houston!
Once this move is complete, we’ll be another step closer to becoming the nation’s
preferred choice for sleep.
