Mise-en-scene (Props/Costumes)USED
Piano A very professional musical instrument. I believe this would make my audience believe that my magazine’s artists are talented and professional and know what their doing. To play the piano you have to be passionate about it and that’s the sort of theme I want my magazine to portray I believe I do this by using this prop in my contents page.
Guitar Also another professional musical instrument. Using this prop allows my audience to admire the artist. The guitar is a very popular instrument. If one of the artists in my magazine used this prop, many of my readers would envy him or aspire to be like him. Maybe for people who already play guitar but don’t know this magazine, seeing my front cover would make them want to buy the magazine just to find out about him and his guitar skills.
Beret (French Hat) This prop was important because I wanted to add a bit of sophistication to my photos and so far I wasn’t achieving that. This hat connotes an artist or a painter. If a musician used this hat it would imply that this music is like an ‘art’. This hat could suggest that my artists music isn’t just for listening to, it’s to make one think about things – to effect a person emotionally. Therefore the music my artists make has a deeper meaning and would seem like an attractive trait to individualists who don’t just stick to mainstream and go their own way.
Microphone I want my artists not only to look like passionate musicians but passionate singers too. This microphone is sort of like a tool for the artist to open themselves up and for them to become fully immersed and involved in their music and this microphone does this.
Drum Kit A very dynamic and strong instrument. It’s not like the guitar or piano which are more calmer instruments. The drums can be played violently in heavy metal or softly in swing music. The point is this instrument is so varied and not just centred around one style. I want to show this theme in my magazine by using this prop.
Casual Clothing The majority of my images are taken with my artists wearing casual clothing. I believe this allows my audience to relate to my artists because with their clothing they are showing a more relaxed and calm aura around them and this makes them more easily approachable and recognisable.
Mise-en-Scene(Props/Costume)NOT USED
Saxophone Unfortunately I was not able to obtain a saxophone for my images. However it would have be great if I had because having this in my images would be typically conventional. The saxophone is the very essence of the Jazz/Soul genre.
Smart Clothing It also would have been good if I’d used these costumes because our magazine is targeting a fairly mature audience. Using these costumes reflected the ideas of sophistication we wanted to portray. Mature audiences would also be able to relate.
