Bullets come in a variety of shapes, constructions, and materials depending on their intended application. They can be categorized based on their manufacturing process or shape. In terms of manufacturing, bullets include unjacketted bullets made of hardened lead, jacketed bullets with a metallic jacket enclosing a lead core, wire-patched bullets with a copper wire envelope, and paper-patched bullets formerly made with paper jackets. They also include armor-piercing, tracer, and incendiary bullets. Bullets are further distinguished by their shape, such as hollow-point, sharp nose, round nose, boat-tailed, and split-nose bullets. The type of bullet chosen depends on the gun used and its intended range.
2. WHAT IS BULLET?
A bullet is a kinetic projectile and the component of
firearm ammunition that is expelled from the gun barrel
during shooting. Bullets are made of a variety of materials
such as copper, lead, steel, polymer, rubber and even
wax.Bullets are made in a large number of shapes and
constructions depending on the intended applications,
including specialized functions such as hunting, target
shooting, training and combat.
3. TYPES OF BULLET...
(ON THE BASIS OF THEIR
MANUFACTURING
1.Unjacketted bullet :- This type of bullets are
. Made up of lead which has been hardened
by adding some other metals. Because, of their soft nature they
are also known as "soft bullets".
2.Jacketed bullet :- Bullets of this type consist of a
Metallic jacket with a lead core or at times,
with lead core and aluminium tip. Jackets are provided to
prevent bullets from getting dishaped.
Its of 2 Types:-Full Metal Jacket bullet, semi metal jacket bullet.
4. 3. Wire-patched bullets:- This type of bullet consist of a tight
envelope of metallic wire usually made up of copper.
4. Paper-patched bullets:- paper was used as jacket for the
lead bullet.
Metal-patch bullet:-This type 0f bullet is having a metal
cup over the base & extended forward over that portion of
the bullet which bears against the riffling.
``5.Armour piercing bullet:- This is a non-lead bullet & is
made from a tungsten chromium steel core pointed at one
end & enclosed in a mid-steel jacket.
6.Tracer bullet:- A tracer bullet contains a combustible
material inside the jacket at its base.
6. 7. Incendiary bullet:- Bullets of this type contain highly
combustible material which is capable of starting fire after
an impact. Such bullets are extremely dangerous & a great
care should be exercised in handling these.
8. Dum-Dum bullets:-It's a fully jacketed bullet. It's used in
British adopted riffle 0.303 in 1888. Basically, it's a ball
cartridge known as dum-dum mark 2 special.
7. (ON THE BASIS OF SHAPE)
1.Hollow-point bullet:- This type of bullet is provided with a
cavity in the nose.
The disabling capability of the bullet gets enhanced through
expansion after impact & penetration.
8. 2. Sharp nose bullet:-The tip of this type of bullets are
highly pointed.
3. Round nose bullet :-
9. 4.Aluminium tipped bullet:- The jacket of this type of bullets
has aluminium tip towards the nose end. This improves it's
accuracy in flight.
5.Boat-tailed bullet:- In an
efforts to provide stability
In flight, the base of bullet
narrowed down.
10. 6.Stream-lined bullet:- This was an improvement over the
boat tailed bullet & both the tip & the base had fine pencil
points.
7. Split-nose bullet:- The jacket of this type of bullet is cross
cut at the nose-end to enable the bullets to have four sharp
& pointed leaves set at right angle like the blades of an
electric fan.
11. ...CONCLUSION...
• This was a brief description of the various kinds of bullets.
• The bullets also vary with the type of gun used. So, there
are different bullets for handguns, machine guns, rifles,
pistols, and revolvers.
• Thus, in order to choose a bullet, one should also have a
prior idea of the type of gun to be used and its range.
