PROFILE:
I am an engineering and project management professional with extensive experience as a
chartered engineer continuously improving supply chain capability & efficiencies for market-
leading companies in European and global roles. My core skills are leadership of project &
programme teams, project justification and business case preparation, financial management,
engineering process design and continuous improvement. I have over twenty five years’
experience in Supply Chain and Project Management, leading teams in local and international
projects for market leading companies. On a personal note, I am confident and sociable with

ACHEIVEMENTS:
• Manchester Consolidation: Delivery of challenging three site to one consolidation
project on budget ($766k CapEx plus $1.1m OTC), with zero Brambles Safety
Incidents while meeting critical lease termination target dates and with no adverse
impact on customer service while delivering annual supply chain savings of $765k
• Severnside: Leadership of major strategic capital project ($5.6m) to replace existing
Avonmouth Service centre from concept to completion delivered on budget, on target
and with zero Brambles safety incidents delivering annual savings of $920k
• Tiel, Gerber, Severnside: Leadership of three significant simultaneous capital
projects refurbishing and building new Service Centres (Tiel $2.5m, Gerber $1.1m and
Severnside $5.6m) delivering all projects to meet business objectives
• Global Equipment Standards Council: Leadership of CHEP GESC establishing
process for development of standards and central points of expertise facilitating
standardisation and incorporation of best practice from across the CHEP regions
KEY SKILLS:
• Development and leadership of business case proposals from initial concept, through
budget, financial and business case preparation to Business Case Approval
• Leadership and management of projects through key phases of project initiation,
planning, implementation and project close-out ensuring safety, finances, schedules &

• Engineering design and management using key tools of MS Project & AutoCAD to
develop User Requirement Specifications, Functional Specifications, P&ID’s (Process &
Instrumentation Drawings) and equipment configuration and layout drawings
• Use of downtime waterfall analysis, SMED and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)
techniques to improve operational performance and OEE
• Management of multiple and simultaneous business critical projects identifying and
working with stakeholders across all levels to ensure delivery of project objectives

CAREER RESUME:
Project Manager, CHEP European Engineering 2007 – Current
Reporting to the Director, Process Engineering Europe, I lead teams successfully in many
areas of project management, engineering design & innovation, process and people
development:
• Project Management: Leading and managing cross-functional teams and suppliers to
implement and deliver capital investment projects from approval through design,
installation and commissioning to hand-over, identifying and problem solving of
unexpected issues as they arise to mitigate impact on the project (e.g. Tiel, Manchester
projects).
Key techniques that I have used to successfully manage and deliver projects include
scope definition, risk management, stakeholder identification and stakeholder
management, technical design development, tender preparation, evaluation and cost
negotiation, preparation of supply agreements and performance specifications, project
scheduling and critical path analysis, preparation of project budget and cost control,
management of supplier interfaces, contractor site management (including CDM)
production of Factory Acceptance, Commissioning, Qualification and Verification test
acceptance documents, leadership of Project Close-out reviews and best practice
sharing, OEE analysis and continuous improvement implementation.
• Capital Project Justification: Preparation of Business Case and Capital Approval
Requests with strong emphasis on evaluation and financial justification including ROI,
IRR and NPV.
• Process Development: Leading development of standard processes for New Supplier
Qualification, Vendor Management, Project Close-out, Global Equipment
Standardisation and Project Management process standardisation
• Business Case Development and Approval: Taking project concept, identifying
technical solution, preparing and obtaining business case approval and preparing
Capital Expenditure approval documents (e.g. Hoddesdon, Severnside new plants)
• Coaching: Coaching colleagues in both operations and other areas of the business to
build capability in project management & continuous improvement (e.g. Project Jools)
• Standardisation and Continuous Improvement: Standardising and developing
processes and tools to improve project efficiency (e.g. Project reports, OEE analysis)
and process consistency (e.g. Global Engineering Standards, New Vendor Sourcing,
Supplier Management)
• Customer Support: Working with colleagues in customer facing roles and with
customers to understand customer’s needs and to develop solutions based on mutual
synergies from concept to implementation (e.g. Tesco and Gerber TPM facilities)
• Control of Budgets: Control of project spend against approved budget, cost
forecasting and control, identification and management of variances
• Annual Budget Preparation & Delivery: Working with the UK Operations Lead
team to identify projects across UK&IRE network, developing projects for
implementation and tracking progress delivery against budget commitments

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, I led the re-organisation of the engineering maintenance
department from a traditional re-active structure to a reliability-based organisation:
• Implementation of cross-training to increase flexibility & responsiveness of maintenance
teams and use of new skills including predictive maintenance and FMECA based design
Operations Development Manger, PP Payne 2004 – 2005
I managed the planning and materials control team for the main UK manufacturing facility
and led the operations team, developing and leading the global best practice programme.
Unilever – SC Johnson 1991 – 2004
European Continuous Improvement & Engineering Lead 1999 – 2004
Reporting to the VP European Supply Chain, I produced and implemented engineering
standards, specifications and tools for plant design, operation and maintenance and developed
the Manufacturing Excellence programme for the 12 European manufacturing sites.
Sr. Project Engineer, Global Supply Chain 1996 - 1999
I led projects to upgrade production facilities, working mainly in Asia, improving production
efficiency and capacity and ensuring compliance with corporate HSE standards.
Sr. Project Engineer, European Operations 1991 - 1996
I worked with the 14 European manufacturing sites to develop and approve annual capital
investment budgets to ensure technical excellence and continuous improvement in operations.
APV Baker Special Projects, Project Manger 1988 - 1991
I led a large team of cross-discipline engineers, for FMCG & food industry customers.
GEC Electrical Projects, Applications Engineer 1985 - 1988
I designed, tested and supervised the commissioning of PLC based control systems for steel.
