1. Kevin D Harty
Kevin qualified as an architect in the UK and has over three decades of
architectural experience. Kevin spent several years working on a wide range
of projects in England, Scotland and Wales before moving to New Zealand.
He previously worked for several architectural firms in Hamilton but is now
self-employed and living in Auckland. His preferred CAD software is
ArchiCAD.
Kevin is committed to sustainable design and has a special interest in health
work and universal building access. He notes that it is crucial to be able to
establish good relationships with clients, consultants and contractors in order
to realise a successful project. He works well at all levels throughout the life of
a project.

2. 2010 to date (December 2016) KDHArchitectural self employed: Currently
working contract with Bindon Design Group on apartments, terraced houses
and one-off high-end homes. Previously I was with Brave Architects working
on high-end residential and commercial projects. Worked previously Walker
Group working on retail outlet stores/ supermarket in Christchurch and with
Brown Day Group Architects on 3 multi-storey, apartment blocks in Albany
and for North Shore Architecture on a series of residential projects including
alterations, re-clads and new homes. Also worked contract for Jann Hurley
Architect on various new house project and for Alexander & Co on various
remediation projects. Other projects include Student Village housing for
Wintec, New house plus various domestic extensions and alterations.
Progress and quality site reports on the new Meade Clinical Centre, Waikato
DHB as consultant for Chow:Hill Architects.
2010 Sekta Architects Ltd.: Project architect for several small, rapid, office
refits for Waikato Hospital (DHB) needing design, documentation and delivery
to short timescales and close liaison with clients, user groups, local authorities
and contractors. Project architect for The Salvation Army project, both
refurbishment and new build including interiors – job value approx $5.0M.
2005-2010 Chow:Hill Architects Ltd.: Project architect for several small,
rapid, office refits for Wintec Polytechnic requiring design, documentation and
delivery to short timescales and close liaison with clients, user groups, local
authorities and contractors. Assisted on two central facilities buildings for
Wintec– “City Hub” and “Avalon Hub” buildings incorporating libraries, study
rooms, info comms. and cafe/social spaces. Also assisted on large refurb to
house School of Hair and Beauty, offices and cafe for Wintec. Part of team
designing and documenting $25M new build private hospital for Braemar
Hospital, Hamilton. Project architect delivering construction stage on site
including fit-out, job total $35M. Assisted with design and documentation of
several smaller refurb/ new build projects for Southern Cross Hospital,
Hamilton.
2005 Stiles and Hooker, Hamilton, NZ: Documented 3-storey new build
medical office building. Design model-making for Delegats Winery building.
2003-2004 Building Design Group: Project architect for 5 Toyota and 1
Jaguar car dealerships (designed, documented and delivered on site).
Documented and delivered 2 new build 2-storey adjacent office blocks.
Assisted on a variety of commercial and retail project feasibilities and
documentation programmes.
2001-2003 Babtie Group: Project Team Leader for £10 new-build and refurb
to 1 of 3 schools as part of a £40, 3 school PFI in Wales, UK comprising a
new sports centre, new teaching blocks and full school refurb. Designed,
documented and delivered a £750k extension to science block and new
humanities block. Involved in Partnering schemes with Notts County Council
and British Rail/ Rail track to provide various design and implementation
services for school upgrades and new/ refurb’ed stations, respectively.
“Checking/ Verifying” architect for all buildings associated with the new M6 Toll
Road, including the main head quarters and associated buildings as well as
the toll station buildings. Designer for buildings ancillary to a £2B “Power from
Waste” Power Station, including Tipping Halls, Weigh Station, Admin/ Support
building, mechanics and storage buildings.

3. 1999-2001 Building Design Group: Involved in documentation of multi-
storey multi-use retail/ office/ car park building, town centre location. Similarly
involved in work for new temperature controlled food prep building (largest
sandwich making building in the world). Designed refurb of golf club house
and produced feasibilities for hotels, mixed non-food retail and industrial
schemes.
1997-1999 St. Pauls Design: Joined a small team of interior designers to
provide technical building design, documentation and implementation skills.
Areas of work covered small Pub extensions and refurbishments to complete
re-instating of semi-derelict buildings to provide restaurant, night-club and live
music spot in one venue, capacity 1000+ covers. These were in England and
Scotland and included intense negotiations with client, building owners and
local authorities while dealing with short design and implementation times.
1994-1997 A4 Architecture/ IKA Co-Operative Design (self-employed):
Working as a sole practitioner then in a 3-man partnership, I was involved at
all levels of negotiation, design, documentation and implementation of a range
of projects from small domestic refurb’s, one-off houses and interior schemes
as well as taking on work packages from other designers. Consultant to a
Development Corporation urban design department, providing support and
advise on resource applications, grant submissions, development briefs and
site assessments and schemes. Became a Planning Supervisor in line with
new legislation concerning site safety. Was PS for airport carpark, various Pub
extensions, apartment block and small canal marina.
1992-1994 Level 7: Involved in documentation and implementation of new
build 5-storey hotel, particularly the sports club with pools and weights areas.
Designed 9-unit business-park along with involvement at all stages in a
number of alterations/ extensions/ refurbs for retail, leisure and commercial
sectors.
1990 Percy Thomas Partnership: As part of the “Hospital Team”, was
closely involved with the design, documentation and implementation of a
number of refurbs, a small Mother and Baby Unit, a two-storey stand-alone
Elderly Mentally Ill Unit, an Accident & Emergency dept with out-patient
clinics, a Paediatric Unit including a P.I.C.U., and 2 further floors of general
medical/ surgical beds for New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton. Provided
design proposals for a new District General Hospital.
1990 Passed Professional Practice exam. registered with ARB and joined
RIBA.
1989 Cornfield, Crook & Walsh: Closely involved with the design,
documentation and project delivery of “Cadbury World” in Bourneville,
Birmingham. Preliminary brief was to re-use an existing factory building. This
changed to a new-build solution and then included the original building
refurb’ed.
1983-1988 Carl Hobbis Architects (Vacation Jobs): Involved in numerous
smaller housing projects from single house refurb/ conversions to small new-
build estates for Local Govt. housing projects.
Convention Centre Partnership: Design model maker for new Convention
Centre and Symphony Hall, Birmingham, UK.
1982 Commenced studying at Birmingham School of Architecture, UK.
