Applied Resource Management Act and Local Government experience
 7 years’ Local Government (LG) Consents Planning in NZ and Australia, plus 2 years private practice:
 Assessed and approved 300+ consents - strong rural, commercial and residential development experience
including complex amendments of multi-stage subdivisions (some over 1,000 lots).
 Experience in rural, urban and large metropolitan Councils - In depth ‘rapid growth centre’ knowledge. Assessed
and approved development plans.
 Court and Select Committee presentation experience on behalf of LG.
 Held approval authority for subdivision and held an engineering role including compliance responsibilities.
 Demonstrated adaptability: Changed countries, effectively learned/re-learned and applied differing requirements.
Project Management skills
 Project managed/administered LG transport corridor development and designation projects. Developed the principles
of key Council transport strategy and pilot study documents. Worked closely with key stakeholders.
Leadership
 Assisted junior planning staff on customer service, prioritisation and time management/task planning techniques.
Trained staff in the use of specialist planning systems (subdivisions).
 Advised and provided planning opinion to clients, colleagues and staff.
 Presented on planning, legal, strategy, and development topics within Council.
 Led teams - up to 20 persons while holding concurrent management responsibility up to 40 (outside the planning sector).
Excellent communication and customer service skills

 Undertook training within LG, and University. My upbringing afforded a strong exposure to Maori values.
 Liaised with NAMTOK (Tainui advisers) on transport corridor designation projects in NZ. Liaised with the Aboriginal
Heritage Protection Authority in Australian planning roles.
