1. Basic Principles of Christianity
Lesson 4
DYNAMIC CHRISTIAN LIVING
The Christian Life
2. The Christian Life
The Christian life is one of being a disciple, following
Christ’s example so as to conform to his image.
Romans 8:28-30
“And we know that to them that love God all things
work together for good, even to them that are called
according to his purpose. For whom he foreknew, he
also foreordained to be conformed to the image of
his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brethren: and whom he foreordained, them he also
called: and whom he called, them he also justified:
and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
3. The Christian life is not one of perfection,
but of progress and growth.
II Peter 3:18
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory
both now and for ever. Amen.”
4. The following principles can help one in
their daily living as they seek to live for
Jesus Christ.
5. God must be the priority in a
Christian’s Life
– Matthew 6:33
– Matthew 16:24-26
– Matthew 19:29
6. Matthew 6:33
“But seek ye first his kingdom, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be
added unto you. Be not therefore anxious for
the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious
for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil
thereof.”
7. Matthew 16:24-26
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any
man would come after me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
For whosoever would save his life shall lose
it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my
sake shall find it. For what shall a man be
profited, if he shall gain the whole world,
and forfeit his life? or what shall a man give
in exchange for his life?”
8. Matthew 19:29
“And every one that hath left houses, or
brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or
children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall
receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit
eternal life.”
9. Christians Must Increase Their Faith
– Romans 10:17
– II Timothy 2:15
– II Timothy 3:16-17
– II Peter 1:5-11
10. Romans 10:17
“So belief cometh of hearing, and hearing by
the word of Christ. 18But I say, Did they not
hear? Yea, verily, Their sound went out into
all the earth, And their words unto the ends
of the world”
11. II Timothy 2:15
“Give diligence to present thyself approved
unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, handling aright the word of truth.”
12. II Timothy 3:16-17
“Every scripture inspired of God is also
profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction, which is in
righteousness. That the man of God may be
complete, furnished completely unto every
good work.”
13. II Peter 1:5-1
“Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence,
in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge; and
in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control
patience; and in your patience godliness; and in your
godliness brotherly kindness; and in your brotherly kindness
love. For if these things are yours and abound, they make you
to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord
Jesus Christ. For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing
only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old
sins. Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make
your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye
shall never stumble: for thus shall be richly supplied unto you
the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ.”
14. The Christian Life Involves Worship
Daily – Romans 12:1-2
“I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies
of God, to present your
bodies a living sacrifice,
holy, acceptable to God,
which is your spiritual
service. And be not
fashioned according to
this world: but be ye
transformed by the
renewing of your mind,
and ye may prove what is
the good and acceptable
and perfect will of God.”
Colossians 3:16-17
“Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly; in all
wisdom teaching and
admonishing one another
with psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts
unto God. And whatsoever
ye do, in word or in deed,
do all in the name of the
Lord Jesus, giving thanks
to God the Father through
him.”
15. Weekly – Hebrews 10:24-25
– Assemble on the first day of the week
• Acts 20:7
– Partake of the Lord’s Supper
• I Corinthians 11:23-26
– Giving
• I Corinthians 16:1-2
– Pray
• I Corinthians 14:15
– Singing
• Ephesians 5:19
• Colossians 3:16
16. Assemble on the first day of
the week.
Acts 20:7 7And upon the first day of
the week, when we were
gathered together to break
bread, Paul discoursed with
them, intending to depart
on the morrow; and
prolonged his speech until
midnight.
17. Partake of the Lord’s
Supper.
I Corinthians 1:23-26
23For I received of the Lord that
which also I delivered unto you,
that the Lord Jesus in the night in
which he was betrayed took bread;
24and when he had given thanks,
he brake it, and said, This is my
body, which is for you: this do in
remembrance of me. 25In like
manner also the cup, after supper,
saying, This cup is the new
covenant in my blood: this do, as
often as ye drink it, in
remembrance of me. 26For as often
as ye eat this bread, and drink the
cup, ye proclaim the Lord's death
till he come.
18. Giving.
I Corinthians 16:1-2 Now concerning the
collection for the saints,
as I gave order to the
churches of Galatia, so
also do ye. 2Upon the
first day of the week let
each one of you lay by
him in store, as he may
prosper, that no
collections be made
when I come.
19. Pray.
I Corinthians 14:15 15What is it then? I
will pray with the
spirit, and I will pray
with the
understanding also: I
will sing with the
spirit, and I will sing
with the
understanding also.
20. Singing.
Ephesians 5:19 19speaking one to another in
psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing and
making melody with your
heart to the Lord;
16Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly; in all
wisdom teaching and
admonishing one another
with psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts
unto God.
Colossians 3:16
21. Christians Must Love One Another
– John 13:34-35
– I Peter 1:22
– I Corinthians 13:1-13
22. John 13:34-35
34A new commandment I give unto you, that
ye love one another; even as I have loved
you, that ye also love one another. 35By this
shall all men know that ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another.
23. I Peter 1:22
22Seeing ye have purified your souls in your
obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love of
the brethren, love one another from the heart
fervently:
24. I Corinthians 13:1-3
If I speak with the tongues of men and of
angels, but have not love, I am become
sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal. 2And
if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all
mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all
faith, so as to remove mountains, but have
not love, I am nothing. 3And if I bestow all
my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my
body to be burned, but have not love, it
profiteth me nothing….
26. Matthew 5:13-16
13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost
its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is
thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and
trodden under foot of men. 14Ye are the light of the
world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15Neither
do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but
on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the
house. 16Even so let your light shine before men;
that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father who is in heaven.
27. Galatians 5:16-26
16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust
of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the
Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the
other; that ye may not do the things that ye would. 18But if ye
are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19Now the
works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmities,
strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, parties,
21envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of which I
forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they who
practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23meekness, self-control;
against such there is no law. 24And they that are of Christ
Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts
thereof. 25If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also
walk. 26Let us not become vainglorious, provoking one
another, envying one another.
29. Matthew 28:18-20
18And Jesus came to them and spake unto
them, saying, All authority hath been given
unto me in heaven and on earth. 19Go ye
therefore, and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them into the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:
20teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am
with you always, even unto the end of the
world.
30. I Peter 3:15
15but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord:
being ready always to give answer to every
man that asketh you a reason concerning the
hope that is in you, yet with meekness and
fear:
