The mission of Montgomery County Community
College’s Tutorial Services is to serve students
who are currently enrolled in MCCC courses.
Tutorial Services helps students develop learning
strategies based on their unique learning styles
with the goal of creating successful students and
independent learners.
4. Responsibilities of a Tutor
Know how to navigate Tutor.com (If you could not attend
Tutor.com training, please make sure you view the recordings).
Enable notifications while signed in.
Check course selection prior to accepting a student.
Remind students that sessions are recorded.
Always ask students if they are working on a graded assignment or
test!
Reduce your own distractions while in a tutoring session.
Know when to ask for help!
Complete the survey at the end of your session.
5. Responsibilities of a Tutor, cont'd
Be aware of payroll deadlines (See Tutorial Services Team for
this document—Documents>General>Human Resources).
Submit weekly hours in Web Advisor (see p. 20 in manual for
instructions).
Remember—you are entitled to a 5-minute break each hour.
Notify clerks and Patty if you are unable
to attend/complete your shift; make every effort to find a
substitute.
Submit your tutor availability form to Patty prior to the start of
each semester.
6. Know how to navigate Blackboard Collaborate (Ask Kim for
training resources).
Start/stop recording at the beginning/end of every session
regardless of attendance and announce recording to students
upon entry.
Change settings to allow chat and voice for all upon entry.
Change student's status to "presenter" upon entry to give
access to screen share.
Take attendance and send participant names and ID's to
tutoring@mc3/edu. (Note the subject/day/time in the
subject line; for example: MAT085/Monday/6PM.)

Serve each student without judgment.
Keep conversations and tutoring sessions confidential.
Complete annual FERPA/Title IX training
Attend regular tutor training and check-in meetings throughout
the semester; if unable to attend live, view recordings during
tutoring "down-time."

8. In the event of a crisis...
If you sense an immediate crisis:
Trust your gut!
Share the prescript urging the student to seek help; encourage the
student to call 911.

If you have a concern about a student's well-being but do not
believe he/she is in danger:
Email Patty at pabdalla@mc3.edu with your concerns and specific
examples.

Attends all class sessions during term
Provides one-on-one and group assistance within a class session
Maintains relationship with faculty member
Currently provide open sessions in Bb Collaborate
Supplemental Instruction Assistant—Historically challenging courses
Attends all class sessions during term
Facilitates two weekly review sessions in Bb Collaborate
Develops lesson plans as needed
Focuses on general learning skills in addition to content

10. Peer/Para-Professional/Professional Tutor
Has earned up to 60 credits/associate's degree/master's degree or
equivalent experience, respectively
Assists students with subject matter in one-on-one or group setting
Will participate in certified training program as required
Provides tutoring services through Tutor.com
