 Americans who expanded people's rights
 and freedoms in a democracy.

  Eleanor Roosevelt, Thurgood Marshall,
  Lyndon B. Johnson, and Cesar Chavez.
Objective
The students will be able to discuss
the life and accomplishment of Paul
Revere by creating a poster with facts
on it. These facts include: birth date,
what he is famous for, one interesting
fact, and death date, with 100%
mastery.

Early Years
• Born January 1734
  – in Boston Massachusetts.
• He was an apprentice to his
  father. He learned the art of gold
  and silversmith.
• Revere made spoons, tea sets,
  and many other things.
The Boston Tea Party
• Paul Revere was a member of the “Sons
  of Liberty.”
• On December 16, 1773, the “Sons of
  Liberty”
  were part of The Boston Tea Party.
• The Boston Tea Party was a protest
  against high taxes by the British. They
  Dumped tea into the Boston Harbor.
Midnight Ride
• In April 1775, Paul made his famous
  midnight ride. He heard that the British
  planned arrest patriots John Hancock and
  Samuel Adams.
• Paul was told to warn them, so he and two
  men, William Dawes and Mr. Prescott set
  off for Lexington and then Concord. They
  each went a different way in case they
  were caught by British Army.
The Signal
• Before leaving Boston, Paul set up a
  “signal” to warn the people of British
  movement.
• The “signal” was a lantern hung in the Bell
  Tower of Christ Church.
• One lantern was to be hung if the British
  were coming by land, two were to be hung
  if the British were coming by sea.
After the Midnight Ride
• After warning Hancock and Adams, Paul
  met William Dawes again. They headed to
  Concord to warn the people that the
  British were coming.
• They were met by Dr. Prescott on the way.
• All three men were caught by the British
  on their way to Concord.
• Dawes and Prescott escaped, but Revere
  did not.
Paul Revere’s Death
• Died on May 10, 1818 at age 83 years old.
• Although he was not recognized as an
  American hero until his death, Paul
  Revere was a patriot and folk hero in the
  name of freedom.
Review
• Born in Boston, Massachusetts in January
  1734.
• Was part of the Boston Tea Party.
• Famous for his Midnight Ride to warn
  colonist that the British were coming.
• Died May 1818.
• Was not recognized as a hero until after
  his death.
Activity
• Make a digital American Hero poster, photo
  story, slideshow, etc. about Paul Revere
• Your assignment m u s t have a picture of Paul
  Revere on it.
• You can use Prezi, Screenr, SlideShare,
  AuthorStream, Animoto, or Google apps as a
  resource for this assignment.
• Include facts about Paul Revere around the
  picture. These facts need to include:
  – Birth Date/Death Date
  – What he is famous for
  – At least THREE interesting facts of your choice
