KEN FEHLING PARTNERS (KFP) LTD –
COMPANY PROFILE
Ken Fehling Partners (KFP) LTD is a private, Ugandan registered company. It
was founded 2005 by Ken Francis (Ugandan) and Klaus Fehling (German).
KFP LTD has its office in Makindye division, Kampala. The company trades in
shea nuts and shea butter sourced in Uganda. KFP exports both nuts and butter,
and wholesales and retails shea butter under the brand name NILOTICA™ in
Kampala.
We have been buying shea nuts in Otuke district, Lango region since 2006. The
company was the official exporter of the SIDA funded “Northern Uganda Shea
Project” which achieved organic certification from the Swiss “Institute for
Marketecology” IMO, both for the US and EU markets. This project was initiated
by the program “Export Promotion for Organic Products from Africa”
(http://www.grolink.se/epopa/Publications/). KFP has been working with 1,600
shea nut gatherers. Donor funding ended in 2008, and the project continued with
a new partner until end of 2014, mostly to share operational costs of the organic
certification. KFP MD Klaus Fehling has been the project manager from 2010 to
2014. In 2015, KFP has been expanding operations into the West Nile region.
Our vision is to establish a community fair trade business, providing a strong link
between shea nut producers in Uganda and markets both regionally and globally.
We hope to empower shea nut gatherers to process their own butter for export
on an industrial scale. Traditionally it is mostly women who are involved in this
trade. Shea nut and butter sales help them to create additional household
income which is most often invested in school fees and other child welfare. KFP‘s
role is to establish quality standards, find buyers of the whole natural butter,
organize the producers, advise on the processing, consolidate the required
volume and transact the actual distribution/export.
Secondly, the company also seeks to establish NILOTICA™ as a strong brand of
natural products in the local and regional markets.
We are committed to ethical business practices with the intention to return a fair
share of our company net profit to the community of producers. KFP also
promotes the protection of the invaluable shea savannah forest in Northern
Uganda.
