The document outlines plans for a new sixth form magazine at Wanstead High School. It will be a free, A4-sized magazine published monthly. It will focus on hobbies and interests like music, games, TV/film and sports as related to the sixth form. Audience research found students prefer gossip over school news but expect to see school news. The magazine will aim to balance these interests while being unique, relatable and inoffensive to the target sixth form audience.
2. The brief was to produce an imaginary new
sixth form magazine suitable for Wanstead
High School. We have to do this within small
groups, each group member will be given a task
to do, the tasks include:
-Front cover
-Contents page
-Articles / features
-And possibly advertising
3. • Our magazine is going to be a hobby/special interest magazine
• We have decided to make our magazine a hobby/special interest
magazine because it isn’t really going to be interesting to
anyone that doesn’t go to our sixth form, as most of it will be
about the sixth form and news that relates to it
• It will be A4 size
• We have decided to make it A4 because we wanted it to be big
enough to draw people in to read it, we also wanted to make it
so that people could read it properly, and if we made it handbag
size it wouldn’t be as easy to read as it would be as an A4 size
magazine
• Will come out monthly
• We would also want it to be monthly because we don’t want it
to be full of loads of irrelevant things, we would only include
news from that month. If we did make our magazine a weekly
magazine than we would probably run out things to include in
our articles
4. • The magazine will be free
• This is because people are more likely to pick up and
read a free magazine then they would if they had to
buy it first
• This would mean that we would have to make all our
profits from advertising. We would hopefully get
advertisement from the local businesses that want
the sixth form students to visit there establishment
• Our magazine will include music, games, tv/film and
sports pages
• They will have one page each and will be based
around the main concept of our magazine, the sixth
form
• We also wanted to reach a larger audience and the
only way to do this would be to include a wide
variety of topics
5. • Our audience research was done by using two techniques, we used a
questionnaire to find out most the research. We also used a online
poll so that we could reach a wider audience
• We did the online poll so that we could get an outside perspective
on what people would expect in a sixth form magazine
• The questionnaire that we did was short and multiple choice,
because we didn’t want to bore people with it
• We found that most people wanted to know about gossip rather
than news about the school, however they would expect to find
news about the school instead of gossip
• This was useful to us, because now we can focus the magazine on
things that would interest the reader
• However this makes our task quite difficult, because we will now
have to balance the amount of news that is about the sixth form

11. We think that our magazine would be suitable to
our target audience because we think it is
unique and it is directed at a specific audience
who we can relate to, and find out what they
like. It is child friendly, it isn’t prejudice to
anyone, this is so we don’t offend anyone.
