These particular set of notes were removed from legal tender in the
year 1953 and was enforced in the year 1955. Unfortunately a lot of
these notes remained in circulation for a while with great discomfort
to the ruling government. What led to the demonetization, however
was a certain event that took place in the late 40's, that was
described as a "police action" yet had the Indian Armed Forces
involved.

Madhyama vyayoga is a Sanskrit play attributed to Bhāsa, and derived
from Indian mythology. There is no real consensus regarding when the
play was written, and it has been dated variously from 475 BCE to the
11th century CE. The play essentially depicts the painful reunion of a
father with his long estranged son. Madhyama refers to the middle
one: In this case, the middle sibling in a family.
So, which father and son are we talking about?

• A very popular dish in Tulu Nadu, it is said to have been created by a
group of cooks in the kitchens of Udupi many years ago.
• The dish was a result of making an attempt to dispose a lot of ripe
bananas, which was added to flour. The makers loved it and soon it
became popular in Udupi and Mangalore and made its way to the
darshinis of Bengaluru.

“Talking about X there is something funny about the place. India’s high
commissioner in London, Jaimini Bhagwati, who remains unbeaten at
tennis, was at X , as was Rajesh Prasad, his deputy until last week and a
demon fast bowler of yesteryear. The Indian ambassador in Paris, Rakesh
Sood, who came across to give Indian journalists a briefing was — ok,
you’ve guessed — also at X.
There does seem to be a X mafia running the Indian foreign service. I now
recall that many of my classmates at St Xavier’s School in Patna went on
to X in Y.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Salman Khurshid, the external affairs minister,
was at X too. However, it was once said you went to X if you couldn’t get

“Carl Kaufmann made a diving lunge at the finish line, his head crossing the line first.
But it is the torso that counts and Otis Davis, running upright had his body ahead of
Kaufmann. After a suspenseful pause, Davis was ruled the winner. The photo made
further famous after being published in Life Magazine. There were potential
confusion with two athletes in the competition named Malcolm Spence, both
qualifying to the second semifinal. The (one year) younger Malcolm Spence
representing South Africa eventually netted the Bronze medal, while the senior
Malcolm Spence from Jamaica, shortened his name to "Mal" while representing the
British West Indies.”

• Seeking wine, the drinker leaves home for the tavern.
Perplexed, he asks, "Which path will take me there?"
People show him different ways, but this is what I have to say,
"Pick a path and keep walking. You will find the tavern."
Hark! The wine gurgles and splashes as it falls from the goblet.
Hark! It sounds like the tinkling of bells on the feet of an intoxicated girl.
We have reached there, a few steps are we from the tavern,
Hark! Hear the laughter of the drinkers, as the fragrance of the tavern wafts through the air.
Call it not lava, though it flows red, like a tongue of flame.
Call it not the blistered heart, for it is only foaming wine.
Lost memories serve the wine, that intoxicates with pain.
If you find happiness in suffering, come to my tavern.
He who has burnt all scriptures with his inner fire,
Has broken temples, mosques and churches with carefree abandon,
And has cut the nooses of pandits, mullahs and priests ---
Only he is welcome in my tavern.
Alas, he that with eager lips, has not kissed this wine,
Alas, he that trembling with joy, has not touched a brimming goblet,
He that has not drawn close the coy wine-maiden by her hand,
Has wasted this honey-filled tavern of Life.

Even as the soaring mercury triggers demand for X Ys,, market arrivals at

People show him different ways, but this is what I have to say, "Pick a path and keep walking. You will find the tavern." Hark! The wine gurgles and splashes as it falls from the goblet. Hark! It sounds like the tinkling of bells on the feet of an intoxicated girl. We have reached there, a few steps are we from the tavern, Hark!
