What is a Mega Trend?
 Global, sustained and macro economic forces of development that
impacts business, economy, society, cultures and personal lives
thereby defining our future world and its increasing pace of change
(Frost and Sullivan, 2014).
 A large, social, economic, political, environmental or technological
change that is slow to form. Once in place, megatrends influence a
wide range of activities, processes and perceptions, both in
government and in society, possibly for decades (CSG, 2015).
Why do Mega Trends matter?
 Mega trends have different meanings and impacts for different
industries, companies and individuals.
 Analysis of these mega trends and their implications forms an important
component of a company’s future strategy, development and innovation
process, and design and technology planning.
 An analysis of mega trends enables companies to take advantage of
new opportunities and stay relevant in the long term.
Digital Future
 Technology is disrupting all areas of the enterprise.
 Convergence of social media, cloud, big data and anytime anywhere access.
 Opportunities exist for enterprises to take advantage of connected devices
enabled by the internet of things to capture vast amounts of information, enter
new markets, transform existing products and introduce new business and
delivery models.

 Machines and software are increasingly substituting humans.

including revenue models
 Cloud computing, connected devices, mobile, social media and data
analytics are prompting many companies to reassess fundamental
aspects of their business - what products and services they sell, how
they deliver these and how they need to organize to support their
operations.
 Digital technologies are facilitating the introduction of new products
and services.
 80% of companies are seeing changes in how their customers access
goods and services, and more than 51% are in the process of changing
how they price and deliver their goods and services.

 Not only repetitive tasks but those that are complex and more sophisticated
will be automated.
Through the use of AI, machine learning and more powerful processing power.
Not only blue collar jobs will be automated, but white collar jobs too.
 Technology will however create new job opportunities.
 E.g. Drivers of mining trucks will be replaced by radio technicians
