This presentation gives an idea how an E-book business can be set up using XML, HTML & Parsing techniques such as DOM parsing & DTD i.e. Document Type Definition. This presentation had been presented in Sony DADC at Austria(Europe). It gives overview & insights on e-books business.

3. E- BOOKS
 An e-book is the electronic version of a book
covering its full contents (text, tables, diagrams,
illustrations, etc.)
 An e-book collection is usually set up in an edatabase, which supports full-text searching within
and across titles, advanced search and bookmark
functions.
 Users can view full text of e-books in HTML or
PDF format online.

4. An E- Database
• An e-database is an organized collection of
information, of a particular subject or multidisciplinary subject areas. The information of an edatabase can be searched and retrieved
electronically.
• Contents include journal articles, newspaper articles,
book reviews and conference proceedings, etc.

5. Types of e-databases: Full-text vs.
Bibliographic
• Full-text databases contain the whole content of an
article such as citation information, text, illustrations,
diagrams and tables.
• Bibliographic databases only contain citation
information of an article, such as author name,
journal title, publication date and page numbers.

6. Creation of an E-book
• There are total three groups first is TPA which is
known as Text Proofing Analysis group.
• In text proofing analysis we mostly check the text
content of the file. Eg: bold, italic, parenthesis,
paragraph start n closing. 
• In text proofing we also check for special characters
like scientific symbols (alpha, beta) & literals.

7. • First level of agent performs the text proofing & then
the Quality checking is performed for the text
proofing work.
• After text proofing is complete we move towards the
next phase (team) of project which is Styling using
XML & XSLT. This is done by Styling team.
• In styling with the help of some automized tools we
apply XSLT to word documents.
• Applying XSLT is just by clicking the icons assigned
for a particular style.

8. • The clicking enables to run XML & HTML code in
background & applies style sheet to the document.
• After applying XSLT we run document through
software where XML formation of document is
carried out.
• Here XML tags are applied to the documents &
whole XML code per chapter is generated.
• The Coding team checks the code generated for XSLT.
The parsing for each chapter is examined here which
is known as Non-Validating parsing.

XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language.
XML is designed to transport and store data.
XML is important to know, and very easy to learn.
It is heterogeneous for any hardware and software
support.
• It means it can transfer data irrespective of hardware
& software used for any computer in the world.
• This is the main reason why XML has huge advantage
in e-books world.

11. Parsing:
• There are two types of parsing: Validating parsing &
Non-validating parsing.
• In Non-validating parsing only the tagging of the
document is checked based on the text. 
• In validating parsing the XML document is validated
against a pre-stored XSLT file. Eg: DOM parsing. DOM
parsing is Document Object Model for a parsing. This
is one of the parsing techniques.
• After validating parsing DTD of an e-book is created.

12. DTD (Document Type Definition)
• A DTD defines the document structure with a list of
legal elements and attributes.
• The purpose of a DTD (Document Type Definition) is
to define the legal building blocks of an XML
document. 
• It shows the way in which a particular document has
been defined.
• A DTD can be formed for various documents like ebooks, news paper articles etc.

14. • After DTD formation an e-book creation is almost
completed.
• Now we can load this e-book on to website where
we wish to sale or market the book.
• There few online libraries for e-books currently in the
world.
• Few of them are Google e-book library, amazon.com,
OxfordScholarshipOnline.com.
• Many IT firms involved in e-books business are
Accenture, E-Clerx, HOV Services, Google.
