2. Thesis A greater understanding of the basics of farming will give the respect that farmers deserve while showing that it takes a lot of work to put food on the table.
3. Why Farming is Important Farming is where all food starts Farmers are the ones who raise livestock for food www.hobbyfarms.com
4. Why I Choose Farming Farming has always interested me because I’ve always wanted to do something that’s takes work I work at the Nor-View farm as a farm laborer where I keep the farm clean and running while keeping the animals feed and safe
12. Organic farming How something is considered organic Began in the 1990’s 32.2 million hectares or 0.8 percent of the worlds farming Fossel, 14
13.
14. Problems for organic farming Farms are much smaller Organic foods are harder to grow Harder to maintain Fossel, 15
15. Pesticides Pesticides are any substance that is used to prevent, destroy or repel any pest www.verticalfarming.com
16. Early use of pesticides Used over 4000 years ago Became popular in the 1950’s DDT in the 1960’s www.verticalfarming.com
17. Pesticides now Many different types used for different plants and animals Pesticides are classified by the organism that they target www.verticalfarming.com
18. Environmental problems with pesticides About 95% of pesticides reach something other them the targeted plant or animal Pesticides can get carried by the air and pollute anything including water www.verticalfarming.com
19. Why this matters Pesticides in our water Pollutes the ground Kills more then just target Organic plants
20. Crop alteration Modern technology has found was to alter some crops allows crops to develop characterizes that better benefit people Goodrich, 32
30. For my application I attempted to hatch chicken eggs in an incubator, unfortunately not one egg hatched. That could be because of many things like the temperature was off by a degree or two or the egg was not fertilized So instead I order three, one day old chicks. Two hens and one rooster. They are all Easter eggers because of the colors of the eggs they lay
40. Conclusion I learned a lot in this project and also was surprised by how much I already knew. After this project I have a lot more respect for the people that do this for a living because I understand how hard it is to live as a farmer. I also have more respect for the things we have because there is so much that needs to happen in order to put food on the table.

Notes de l'éditeur
Farmers grow many raw ingredients that are used in almost everything like wheat, sugar, and riceFarmers are also the ones who raise animals like cows, pigs, and chickens which are used for there meat
There used to be a lot of small farms that were all family run. They had no breaks because the farms needed attention everyday and the farm was the way to get food and money
Hoe cultivated the ground, pitchfork to move hay or straw, scathe, to cut the plants, flail used to separate the seeds from the rest of the plant Used animals for things like transportation and work
Farms are bigger because it it easier to maintain larger areas and transports materials to the crops/animals like water and food. One of the main changes in farming is how farms hire more people to work for them instead of keeping it family run.
Just Americas meat consumption in 2008
Used for cultivating, harvesting, loading. packaging
Has to be grown with strict regulations like no or limited use of synthetic materials and the use of biological pest control. Began in the 1990s and has grown rapidly.
Graph on organic food sales from 1997 to 2006 in millions of US dollarsIn ten years the sales of organic foods has gone up by over 13 million
Farms are smaller because organic plants need more attentionThey are harder to grow because they grow slower because they do not use steroidsThey are also harder to maintain because of weeds and insects and how the farmers can not use and pesticides to stop them
Pests include mosquitoes, bees, ants or any insect
4000 years ago farmers used sulfur to kill pests and later used mercury and lead. The 1950’s was known as the pesticide era. DDT is a pesticide used in the 1960’s which is now banned by the Stockholm convention because I cause many bird eating birds to loose the ability to reproduce.
Different kinds of pesticides for all types of pests like bacteria and algae all the way to snails and rodents. Used to kill and control pest and prevent diseases for huma
Pollutes everything like air, water, soil, animals, and plantsThe air can carry the pesticides miles from the targeted area
Pesticides have been found in every major lake, river and stream in the USOn land, pesticides effect animals, plants and humansAlmost all pesticides will kill other plants or animals then just the one it is intended to killIf this stuff worries you then eat organic foods because they are grown without pesticides or steroids
Crops like vegetables and fruits are the most common to be alteredCan be altered to grow bigger, have more seeds, have some drought tolerance and resistant to pests
Child labor laws protected kids from over working and working in hazardous conditions. Occupational safely and health act protected workers from injury and death caused from the job
Graph showing how much OSHA is helping to prevent injuriesSince 2005 the injuries per 200,000 hours has gone done by over 1 person
OSHA is still used with new regulations to support the new equipmentThere are many laws saying what pesticides you can use and how much you can use
15000 years ago,
The animals are still used for their meat and milk but no there is technology to speed up the process steroids make meat grow faster and make it cheaper pic of cow carousel where the cows are milked much faster then by hand
All 4 were domesticated before 5000 B.C
Graph on how much different states spend on animals grazingLighter state have less grazing and darker states have more grazingTexas spends more then 20,000,000 on land management practices
To candle an egg you hold the egg tight in your hands and shine light threw the egg
Pic when the chicks were 1 day old
You can see how they are growing because they are getting taller and there feathers are coming in
