•operates grades 5-9 with a population of 380
students and a staff of 50
•French as a language is compulsory for grade
5 -8 students
•offer an optional Ukrainian-Bilingual program

9. Manitoba Wise...where are we?
Across the province there are
still many grade 7-9 Home
Economics programs.
Few Home Economic programs
offered at the grade 6 level.
ESMS is one of the first in the
Province to integrate Home
Economics at the grade 5 level.

10. THE GRADE 5 PROGRAM
What does it look like?

11. Integrating Grade 5
The program runs for 3 months each beginning October and ending in June.
Each of the 3 grade five classes will receive a double (80 minutes) once a six
day cycle.
The time is split between Human Ecology and Technology Education. (It
works out to about 10 double classes each)
The classes are divided into male/female with the girls beginning in Home
Economics/Human Ecology.
In Human Ecology grade 5, I integrate the concepts of Nutrition/Exercise
and First Peoples in Social Studies.
The kids look forward to the time we spend together and have a lot of fun
too!!
