39. Twitter Box Office Update The ratio is the number of tweets per $1 million of Friday Box Office gross. A film with 1,000 tweets and a $10 million Friday would therefore have a ratio of 100. In general, films that appeal to very young or older audiences have lower ratios since those audiences are not big users of Twitter. By comparison, films that appeal to younger audiences (18-35) have much higher ratios since those audiences are much more active users of Twitter.

Twitter Reviews Sink Box Office Weekends Time Magazine thinks Twitter might be to blame claiming that “Brüno could be the first movie defeated by the Twitter effect.” You may have seen a few tweets from moviegoers sharing their colorful movie watching experiences. Those very tweets may have resulted in a drastic decline in sales, causing the movie to fall as much as $20 million short of some expectations. According to box office results, Brüno, pulled in $30.4 million, saw almost a 40% drop in ticket sales from Friday to Saturday, and lost even more steam going into Sunday.
41. Bruno All is not lost for Brüno. In the first week of domestic DVD release it makes $6,536,957
