Primary responsibilities include coordinating undergraduate and graduate academic programs for
four academic degree programs that include 12 academic degrees. The program areas are Early
Childhood Education/Child Development, Counseling and Development, Family Studies, and
Family Therapy. Specific responsibilities include: managing the department’s Counseling and
Family Therapy Clinic; scheduling course offerings; managing personnel matters involving 23
faculty, one program assistant, three office staff persons, and 15 to 20 Graduate Teaching
Assistants and adjuncts; representing the department throughout the University and the
community; collecting and analyzing information regarding program activities, schedules,
effectiveness, enrollment, planning and growth; managing the department’s budget; evaluating
faculty, mentoring faculty, and managing search committees for the hire of faculty; recruiting
and providing orientation for adjunct faculty; creating and nurturing an atmosphere of excellence
in scholarly teaching, research and service; developing and sustaining interest in grant writing
and competition for external program and research funds.
