Web 1.0
History
• Web 1.0 founded in the year 1989 and lasted until 2005
• Links could be defined as URLS
• Items of users interests could be typed in URLS
• Users could only do searches and read content no consumer
interaction
Key
Characteristics
• Based on a dialup connection (wired)
• No user interaction
• A website made could not be changed
• Applications can be downloaded, but not changed
• Content could only be read
CommonUses
Chat rooms were most commonly used.
Tools and
Technologies
The resources and tools that were most likely used withWeb 1.0 in
my opinion are
Web Browser MOSAIC
Search and look for information
This is because web browsers gave users
an access to the entire world of information.
Chat rooms
I believe people used chatrooms as a means
for entertainment and serious business.

Web 2.0
History
• Web 2.0 was first coined in 1999 by Darcy DiNucci but was
popularized in 2004 byTim O’Reilly and Dale Dougherty.
Key
Characteristics
• “It allows users to interact with each other in social media dialogue
as creators of user generated content.”
• “Changed the way web pages are designed and used.”
• Examples: social networking sites and social media
CommonUses
• Web 2.0 most common use was through websites using image,
text, video, and interactive advertisements.
• Industries or any person could pay to include something on a
website like an advertisement or video.
• Was used in Schools, Medicine, Publishing,Government, etc.
(Library 2.0, Gov. 2.0, Medicine 2.0)
• Also introduced blogs, podcast, tagging, and web content voting.
Tools and
Technologies
• Google- search engine used to gather specific information.
• Flickr- an image hosting and video hosting website to store and
share content.
• Napster- a peer to peer file sharing internet service that
emphasized digital audio files.
• Wikipedia- website that can be written and edited by any person.
Most Important Features:
• Web based advertisements and Social Media
• I believe that these were the most important because they
allowed industries and people to be able to share their content
across the internet with their values and goals. With Social media,
it changed the way people shared information and offered more
feedback for businesses and people.

Web 3.0
History
and Key
Characteristics
• Web 3.0 is the upcoming emergence of a new era of how we use
the world wide web.
• Also known as the “Semantic” web—rather than the user
interacting with other users, the computer is interacting with data
to interact with the user.
• “Behind-the-scenes” of the web.
CommonUses
• Web 3.0 is most commonly used in retail and business websites, as
well as search engines;Amazon, Google, andWikipedia are good
examples.
• Web 3.0 is also used in research databases.
Tools and
Technologies
• Cloud Computing—uploading a file to ‘the cloud’ online to access
it from virtually anywhere
• Web Semantics—The use of common data formats to link data
together on a massive scale.
• Open technologies—Data, software, and any other technologies
that allow for free and open use and communication.
Most Important Features:
• Cloud computing and web semantics. These tools are exceedingly
common in educational, professional, and personal aspects of web
usage.
