2. Timeline of the board selection process
1. Meeting call for the general meeting is done
2. Application period for the board is had
3. Board applicants’ applications are published
4. The formers of the Board interview other applicants
5. Formers of the Board publish their proposals for the board
6. General meeting is held, new board is chosen
(After the General Meeting, the new board organizes the officer call.
The officer call is done through a traditional interview process)
3. Who is the Former of the Board?
Anyone can put themselves forward as a former of the board
- Nearly always the chairperson applicants
Former of the board is someone, who brings forth a proposal of the new board in the
general meeting
The former of the board interviews all the applicants, then determines what in their view
is the best composition for the next board.
The former of the board must be able to justify their proposal to the meeting. The
meeting should also question the former of the board in if they have treated the other
applicants fairly.
Most often, the former of the board who “wins”, becomes the new chairperson
4. Why Former of the Board?
In our previous system, people applied and were voted on as just board members, with no
input for which roles people are chosen for.
-> Practically people still applied for roles, but the voting system was clunky for that
As the former of the Board interviews the applicants, they get a better understanding of
the applicants abilities and wishes, than members through the applications alone.
Former of the board can better take into account things like team dynamics and has the
big picture perspective of the board.
The former of the board has more freedom to negotiate with the applicants, propose
different board compositions and to implement their vision for the board.
The former of the board is trusted to treat the applicants in an fair and objective manner.
They can and should be scrutinized by the general meeting.
