As the school library specialist, I was awarded $3500.00 that will be used to
purchase technology. This technology will support both classroom instruction and the
school media program. I have organized the following prioritized list for S.L. Mason
Elementary School:
1. In Focus Projector
2. Remote Control for Projector
3. Screen for Projector
4. Digital Cameras
5. Camcorder
Reasons for Purchases:
1) The first thing on the list is the In Focus Projector and accessories. The teachers
feel like this would really help to integrate technology into our lessons. The
teachers feel like the children would enjoy the lessons more and would pay more
attention to the information being presented. With our school being a learning
focus school, the InFocus Projector would help to differentiate instruction.
2) The next thing on the list is the digital cameras. Our school has just started a
school website. On the website, there is a link to every classroom in the school.
The teachers can put things on there like, pictures, newsletters, classroom
happenings, etc… They feel that with the purchase of more digital cameras, it
would be easier to update the websites with pictures showing what the children
are doing and learning at school. This way, more cameras are available for use.
3) The last request was another digital camcorder. The teachers were interested in
recording things going on around the school and in their classrooms. Many of the
teachers like to record their students acting out stories or plays and play them
back to the school. There is only one camcorder available for use. It is hard to
check it out if there is a program at school that needs to be recorded. They also
wanted to add in that they would like the new one, so that the tapes are already in
DVD format and do not need to be converted.

Recommendation:
There is not a lot of difference in the prices of the three vendors. The all offer
about the same features. All of them are portable and will plug up to about any digital or
video source. They all have a good number of lumens. They are all also fairly
lightweight. The InFocus IN15 projector has a 2.0 zoom and has a 2000 hr lamp life.
The InFocus Corp LP 120 Projector has a remote with it and is the most compact. It has
included a built in speaker. The NEC Projector has an integrated RJ45 connection and is
wireless capable. It is also the cheapest.
After observing all three projectors closely, I would recommend the InFocus
IN15. It offers more features and is the same price as the other one. It will display any
3. 3
video source, it has 2500 lumens, and it lamp life is 2000 hrs. It also allows laptop and
desktop projection without have to downscale.
#2 Remote Control for Projector
Since the projector will be used for presentations, I thought that it might be a good idea to
purchase a presentation remote and not just have a regular remote. I also noted that we
needed two in case the other one gets lost, or in case two people present the information.
The following is a list of the vendors that carry them and their pricing.

After reviewing these two companies, I say that we should go with the remote from
projector people because they are the same company that we bought the projector from.
They also offer free shipping which would make up for the money spent on the higher
priced remote. I think that these remotes would be very beneficial and would definitely
be used a lot.

#3 Screen for the projector
Since there is not already a projector in the media center, we would need to purchase a
screen for the students and teachers to be able to use for presentations and PowerPoints.
The following is a list of vendors and their prices.

I would recommend that the Model B screen from Dell be purchased. It is cheaper and
can be mounted to the ceiling. The screen is not going to need to be moved if the
projector is in place. With it being mounted to the ceiling, it is more likely to hold up
better. The children will not be able to put their hands all over it. Also, I read the
reviews and I am not sure about how well the legs will hold up. There were some
problems with them messing up.

I would recommend that we purchase the cameras from Best Buy because they are
cheaper. This would put you at saving $30.00. This is not a lot, but it adds up. I chose
these cameras because I think that they are easy to use and the best choice all around.
They would be perfect for someone who does not have a lot of experience when using a
camera. These cameras also have 7.1 megapixels and a 4x optical zoom.

I would recommend this camcorder, because it is light and easy to handle. It is also easy
to operate. It has the MiniDVD format that the teachers requested. It also has a swivel
screen and an optical zoom. I would recommend that we purchase the one from circuit
city because of the price. These are exactly the same except for the price.
