2. ANALYSIS OF GENRE CONVENTIONS OF A DUBSTEP VIDEO
In most of the dubstep videos, the music is very upbeat. This relates
to the music video as when the bass drops in the song, the music
video tends to get more aggressive. Also a lot of special effects are
used to make the video look very far fetched and even surreal. The
colours that are seen in these type of videos are also very dark and
bland, which this then ties into the convention of aggressiveness.
3. ANALYSIS OF GENRE CONVENTIONS OF A DRUM AND BASS MUSIC VIDEO
As this genre is very upbeat, there is a lot happening on the screen
and a lot of action. This relates to the actual music because of the fast
beats that this style of music has. Usually the footage changes clips
or camera angles when the beat of the song changes, this is so the
music is in sync with the video. This is apart of Goodwin's theory, this
shows a relationship between the video and the music.
4. ANALYSIS OF GENRE CONVENTIONS OF A DANCE/ELECTRONIC VIDEO
The lyrics used in the videos is heavily related to the actual
video. E.g David Guetta – sexy chick has a lot of women
dancing in the video. As the genre is ‘Dance’ there is also a
lot of dancing in the video. Also loads of bright colours are
used to show the expression that dance has. This video uses
Mulvey’s theory of ‘Male Gaze’. This is where females are
used as visual pleasure to attract men to watch the video so
it gives them a greater chance of buying the song.
5. ANALYSIS OF GENRE CONVENTIONS OF A INDIE / ALTERNATIVE MUSIC VIDEO
Amateur looking video’s as a lot of the camera shots are hand held. This
makes the camera shake looking less professional. The editing used in
the video is very fast paced to match with parts of the music which start
to increase in pace. There is also no colour in this video, and its shot in
the dark whilst they are in the car. This instantly shows some sort of
mystery which then leads on to the name of the song ‘R U Mine?’ this is
asking a question also showing mystery as its asking a question.
6. ANALYSIS OF GENRE CONVENTIONS OF A ROCK MUSIC VIDEO
Most of the music videos for this style of genre that I looked at are
heavily based around the actual song and it builds up a storyline
throughout the whole video. Also looking at the ones I had analysed
they had started off slowly and built up throughout the song, and when
this happens, aggression is noticeable within the video. This video I
watched ‘
