10. Refugee Employment Support Program provider announced
In May 2017, Settlement Services International (SSI) was selected to deliver the four-year Refugee
Employment Support program across the state
Aim: For 6000 refugees and 1000 asylum seekers to develop career plans to find a meaningful job
and includes fee-free vocational training
In 2016, resettlement of refugees in the Illawarra came mainly form Syria and Iraq

Mandatory work placement
A Commonwealth survey of NSW/Victorian employers found only 43% provided some kind of
work experience. However, 53% employers in the CSH area identified they had hosted work
experience students in the last 12 months. Their focus was on students (secondary and
tertiary) rather than job seekers.
