When it was created in 1959, the Les Castels
group initially offered traditional campsites. 24
independent pioneers came together around
the same values and the same goal: to
develop the art of French hospitality, whilst
preserving environmental heritage. Today,
made stronger by its experience and
professionalism, Les Castels has now become
a luxury outdoor accommodation chain. The
chain offers its guests a certain French “art de
vivre”.
Les Castel's vocation is to develop the chain
and bring together its independent members
around a common cause and philosophy,
promote valuable experiences and share skills
and know-how among all.
There are now 41 establishments, and they
continue to give their all in protecting core
values such as a quality welcome and an
independent spirit. A development strategy
based on a conscientious and realistic
marketing approach was unanimously agreed
on. This proud new identity led them to create
a unique economic model: a fusion of
outstanding estates and remarkable natural
sites. Within Les Castels, each member
retains their independence and freedom.
The Chain aims to be the first 5-star Chain
in France. Thanks to 2 members, which have
been the very first 2 campsites to be ranked 5-
Star in France, Castel Le Domaine de
Massereau and Castel Saint Avit Loisirs, Les
Castels Chain has already now 34
campsites which have been ranked among
the 5-star sites.
Les Castels' ambition is to provide
accommodation with a difference, to stand
out from the competition's increasingly
standardized offer.

castels.com, are spread out over 41 locations
across France. A single reference and booking
database for all the products provides an
enhanced service quality to customers.
Moreover, a photo library containing over
1000 visuals, which now has an image
search function by location and by theme is
available on www.les-castels-photos.com.
With professional expertise, know-how and a
touch of savoir vivre, combined with spacious
and top-of-the-range accommodation, Les

Les Castels and sustainable development
Les Castels highlights its active
environmental approach.
As outdoor accommodation specialists, Les
Castels are wholeheartedly committed to a
sustainable development approach and aim to
continue developing the following key issues
within a protected environment:
Aesthetic accommodation which is
integrated into the surrounding
landscape and ongoing environmental
conservation work;
Light and moveable installations
(mobile homes, tents, caravans etc.);
Adherence to regulations outlining the
distance between each plot to
maintain the privacy and harmony of
guests' stays.
The “Camping Qualité” charter
For many years, Les Castels has
been following the "Camping
Qualité" (Quality Campsite)
charter set up by the French
Camping and Caravan Federation and the
French National Federation for Outdoor
Accommodation with the support of the French
Tourism Commission. This quality label is a
guarantee of an outdoor accommodation
option which follows four key criteria:
> A warm welcome
> Impeccable cleanliness
> Accurate and honest information
> A calm and private plot
> An improved and respected environment
The environment protection labels
Les Castels Chain has set itself to have all its
members engaged in a procedure to get an
environment protection label such as The
Green Key by 2014 as an objective.
The European Ecolabel award
Today, already 2 Castels campsites have been
awarded with the European Ecolabel, among
them: Castel Le Château de Poinsouze and
Castel La Garangeoire, both since 2011.
The Green Key award
In 2014, the Chain has 20 members which
owns the Green Key label, and is then at the
top of the 5-Star campsites awarded with the
Green Key label.
"Clef Verte" (Green Key) is an environmental
management award for tourist accommodation
existing in 32 countries and is committed, in
particular, to:
Accommodating no more than fifty
families per hectare;
Maintaining at least 20% of green
space across the site;
Maintaining the site acceptably clean.

The trend of ‘glamping’ refers to open air

glamping since they started up in 1959.

Wellness/Spa holidays
The popularity of wellness breaks is another
trend that is growing. It is now recognized that
spa holidays do not have to be so expensive
and that a peaceful setting, a complete menu
of excellent treatments and good facilities can
be had at more modest rates. Two of Les
Castels sites are particularly good for wellness
stays: Castels Domaine de la Bergerie and
Douce Quiétude offering balneo bath,
hammam, sauna and massages… They even
incorporate a hairdressers and beauty salon.
Unusual stays
In 2004, le Castel Domaine des Ormes was
the very first site in France to feature the now
famous treehouses. The concept has since
charmed visitors looking for more unusual
types of accommodation. It also started a
trend of other ‘different’ places to stay
throughout many of Les Castels sites.

Ormes, Domaine de la Brèche, Château de
Lez-Eaux, Parc de Fierbois, Petit Trianon de St
