• It is any first hand testimony, account , document or any physical object written or
created during or immediately right after the time under study.
• These sources were present during an experience or time period and offer a
ringside view of a particular event

• These may be original documents/ translation of diaries, speeches, manuscripts or
letters
• It may also be in ancient times be paintings, tools, weapons, fossils, animal bones
and teeth or official myths

interpretation and analysis of the primary source. It is usually written after the
actual event
