Take away the fears • Sharing is caring (content, resources, knowledge and help) • Just because you downloaded it doesn’t mean you own it • You get out what you put in • JCT Training and JC Co-ordinator (Steps and support to success) • CPD and Peer Learning • External sources but learning from each other works better • Small steps but have a plan (“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”) • Remember what success looks like and work back from there • Don’t loose anyone along the way NSPI 2017

Prepare for tech / platform • Standard for everything – have one – it’s a must – it’s a must – it’s a must • Learning Resources (Where, what, formats – have a standard) • Choose your tech carefully (alignment, ease of use, relevance) • Less is more (more is complicated – complicated does not scale/work) • Tech should take tech out of the way (enabler vs replacement) • Make sure your tech talks with each other • Sticky plasters are not forever (just because it works does not mean it works or will work for everyone / long term / scalable) NSPI 2017

- Change is normal Fact of life so get used to it It happens whether we like it or not So when we talk about the new JC and technology – the both introduce change
- Change does not always have to be a bad thing Aware that it is coming, its here, it happens – embrace and accept it allows you to move on - improve
- Subject plans had to be done – but for what purpose – not to gather dust and never be used I want to do it my way I want to use my resources – their mine I want to use my own plan My way works I have to do a plan for the inspectorate I have to do the junior cycle I have to….
- When we plan for the new Junior Cycle and for technology – what does success look like (students – me – dept – school) What are we trying to achieve Why are we doing this?
- Why are we doing this plan – outcome or result (What will students be able to do at the end of this) Why are we bringing in this piece of tech – end goal – not just for the sake of it
- Substitution – Acetate to a projector or paper to electronic format (book to tablet) | take attendance electronically instead of roll book Augmentation – Interactive board or use video or hyperlinks in presentations – forms for quizzes Modification – students record their work voice or video / subject electronic work which can be annotated or voice comments / Use a platform for centralising your resources as a department Redefinition – Students group together using a virtual whiteboard to create work / you could do subject planning collaboratively via a platform and link interactive resources and use an online scheduler
