Lewis Brown designed layouts and color schemes for a magazine cover, contents page, and double-page spread. For the cover, he chose the first layout which features a medium shot of an artist. For the contents page, the second layout was selected as it includes an editor's note and image, giving a more personal feel. The second double-page spread layout was also chosen for its simplicity and easy readability of evenly spaced text columns. An indigo and white color scheme was picked based on survey feedback and the sophistication indigo conveys for an EDM music magazine.

Layouts
The following slides show my layout plans for my front cover,
contents page and double-page spread.
I have drawn two layout ideas for both my front cover and contents
page by hand.
I have also designed two double page spread layout ideas using
Photoshop.

Colour Scheme Ideas
Here are my ideas for the colour scheme of my magazine;
Indigo and White
Neon Green and White
Electric Blue and White

Colour Analysis
I have chosen my magazine colour scheme to be indigo and white
firstly because of the results of my questionnaire, where these
colours were the most popular colour scheme choice.
Indigo has mystical and spiritual connotations which suggests to the
reader that EDM music is transcendent for the listener.
I believe neon green and electric blue are less sophisticated than
indigo and would therefore make my magazine look cheap and lower
end in the market.

Front Page Layout
Out of these two front cover layout designs I have chosen layout 1
for my magazine. I think because the main image is a medium shot it
allows us to see the artist as a whole (for example we can see her
outfit better).
I also think the pug with free gift written on it will attract the reader
as well as the other rectangular insert which lets the reader know
about the magazine app.

Contents Page Analysis
I think that the second contents page layout is more effective
because of the editors note with an image of the editor; this gives
the magazine a more chatty style and creates a relationship between
the reader and the editor.
I also think the second layout looks much more busy which
connotes to the reader that the magazine is packed full of
information and is worth buying.

Double page Spread Analaysis
I have chosen the second layout for my double page spread as it
looks more simple and sophisticated which connotes to the reader
that the feature is easy to navigate around.
I also think the text is easier to read in the second layout because
each column of text is the same height and is next to the other, as
opposed to the text in the first layout where the columns are
seperated by some sub-images.
I may have to slightly alter my chosen double page spread layout so
that it follows the rule of thirds more and this will cause it to look
more professional.
