Letter from our President

“Child Dies A er Being Le Alone in Car"
"NFL Star Suspended Over Child Abuse
Charge"
Child abuse and neglect is a topic that no
one wants to focus on. At Child's Hope, it
is our mission to fight to bring awareness
and prevent child abuse and neglect. Yet
we con nue to be confronted with head-
lines like the ones above. It doesn't seem
like much can be done on an individual
level to make a difference.
One of the ways Child's Hope works to
keep the conversa on going is through our
Blankets 4 Kids program. Volunteers from
schools, churches and local communi es
work together to make so&, colorful blan-
kets for children who have suffered from
sexual and/or physical abuse. This work
supports child vic ms of abuse who are
given only a paper sheet during their med-
ical exams, which offers li*le in the way of
cover or support. Fleece blankets provide
physical warmth and emo onal comfort at
this difficult me for children in need of
kindness and support. The finished blan-
kets remain with the individual children.
This is one example of the many preventa-
ve programs that Child’s Hope provides
to meet the needs of children.
Current research shows that in the U.S.,
one in four girls and one in six boys will be
sexually abused by the me they turn
eighteen. In Wayne County more than
100,000 children will likely be vic ms of
sexual abuse before they reach adulthood.
Ninety percent of abusers are people that
children know, love or trust.
In 2014, over 880 blankets were provided
through this ini a ve thanks to many local
groups and gatherings. During blanket-
making events, volunteers learn about
other ways to combat child abuse and
neglect in their communi es.
Your contribu ons will not only allow this
valuable program to con nue but also
support our other programs like My Body
is Mine, Never Shake a Baby, Look Before
You Leave, Safe Sleep and Mandated Re-
porter Training. Please consider dona ng
to support Child’s Hope in any way you
can: funding for supplies and/or hos ng an
event.
Your help. Your me. Your energy. It all
becomes a child's hope!
Sincerely,
Trisha Stein
