Level 2
Module 3- Taming the web
Title of your lesson:
eTwinners comparing feelings

Ambassador and school details:
Lidija Kralj, OŠ Veliki Bukovec, Croatia
lidija.kralj@skole.hr
Age range of pupils targeted by this lesson plan:
11 - 14

Country :
Croatia

Specify your subject:
Focus of the lesson is to demonstrate that people can feel differently about a situation, to
recognise that others can react in different ways to the same scenario and to respect the
feelings of others and be more tolerant towards those with different views from our own.
For this eTwinning project we will use online version of game Feeling Barometer. Original
game can be found on Safer Internet web site. We will use online version created in Croatia
and available in Croatian and English.
Topic can be used within any subject and adjusted to different age groups.

Description:
Using online version enable us to use that game as part of eTwinning project. One teacher
will start the game and share screen with other teachers (videoconference). Students will
join game from different places (classes). After students put cards on barometer
videoconference discussion will take place.

1
Template: Lesson Plan

Materials Needed:
 Projector, computers for students
 Videoconference tool: Skype, Google Hangout, Webex, Adobe Connect or
other
 Leading teacher start page
http://www.ucitelji.hr/dodatno/SID_igra4/sys/indexen.html
 Students start page http://www.ucitelji.hr/dodatno/SID_igra4/indexen.html
 Paper version:
http://www.saferinternet.org/c/document_library/get_file?uuid=254ad4744649-4661-95ff-871a4b326836&groupId=10137
Activity:
1. Partner teachers start program for screen sharing
2. Leading teacher start game (EN) defining game name and number of players
http://www.ucitelji.hr/dodatno/SID_igra4/sys/indexen.html
3. Students from all classes join the game and put their cards on barometer
http://www.ucitelji.hr/dodatno/SID_igra4/indexen.html
Ask the pupils to think how they would feel if what is written on the card
happened to them. Ask them to place their cards on the feelings barometer.
Allow students enough time to read cards and decide where they'll put them.
4. After students put cards on barometer videoconference discussion will take
place.
a. teacher from one school start with cards on level 1 and ask students in
their class why they put card there, how such situation affected them
b. students from other schools join discussion and give arguments why
card should or should not be on that barometer level
c. discussion continue up to level 10 on barometer, plan enough time so
all partners have their chance to talk
5. Conclusion part: ask students how they'll prevent or avoid such situations,
they could create blog post in TwinSpace describing their ideas.
Verification:
Messages exchanged during discussion and blog posts afterwards.

Time allocation:
Depend on number of partners, at least 45 minutes, up to 90 min. Extra time is
needed for writing a post - maybe as homework.
Results:
Students have better understanding that others can react in different ways to the same
event, they are more tolerant towards those with different views from our own.

Comments:
Teachers have to agree on which tool they'll use for screen sharing, so every class
can see Feelings barometer page. For 2 partners Skype is good for more we
suggest Google Hangout or some other videoconference tool (webex, adobe
connect..)
Increasing number of participants we'll decrease number of cards per participant, so
all cards can show up on barometer.
Teachers have to try game on their own so they are familiar with way of playing it
and messages that cards are showing.
It would be good that teachers agree on questions they'll ask students so they can
motivate them for discussion and get better responses from all partners.
Paper version of cards are available on Safer Internet web page in English so if
online version doesn't work properly game could still be played with paper cards and
blackboard.
If teacher decide to use this lesson plan without partners from other schools it could
be done the same way in one class, just without screen sharing.
How do you think this lesson plan can be used in eTwinning projects?
Lesson plan is written as part of eTwinning project.
It could be used as part of any eTwinning project as a way to celebrate the
Safer Internet Day. For projects dedicated to esafety it could be used as one
of the activity.
