3. Who Are We?
In 1969 a group of Southampton residents united to form a
community council that would reach out to young people
experiencing difficulty with drugs and to offer them aid.

5. Prevention Services at Alternatives
Our goal is to help youth acquire the social and
emotional support and skills necessary for them to live
a healthy balanced lifestyle.
How we do it:
• Assess strengths, challenges and capacity for change.
• Identify a culturally appropriate prevention program for
implementation.
• Deliver the program to the individual, family, school,
and community.
• Evaluate the programs and outcomes and recommend
next steps.
7. Teen Intervene
• Brief evidenced based intervention for teens experiencing
mild or moderate problems associated with alcohol or
other drug use.
• Session I: Overview of the student’s use history,
discussion of pros and cons of use, evaluate student’s
readiness to change, goal setting.
• Session 2: Teaches the student new skills for dealing with
peer pressure, decision making, and support systems.
Students establish longer term goals.
• Session 3 (optional): Parent/guardian session to enhance
and encourage positive behaviors that promote healthy
change.

• Follow up booster session one month after intervention.
• Referral to school or community resources or programs.
• Referral to treatment services.

Our goal is to help clients make changes in order to stabilize their lives
and address associated substance abuse, medical and co-occurring
issues through evidence based treatment methods.
