16. 8. This is a painting by Robert Home depicting the death of Colonel Moorhouse at the ‘Pettah Gate’ of Bangalore fort during the third Anglo-Mysore war. Subsequent to the victory of the British, a monument was raised in memory of the dead Colonel at the spot of his death. The monument existed until 1960’s and lent is name to the road it was on. Succumbing to chauvinistic pressures,the name and the memorial were both taken down. Which road, which monument and what stands there today ?
