    Subject- tells who or what a sentence is about

    Complement- completes the meaning of the verb
       -predicate nouns
                     renames or defines the
                     subject after a linking verb
                          names the receiver of
       -direct objects the action of the verb



       -indirect objects
                tells to whom or what or for
                whom or what an action is done

   Identify the underlined noun as a subject or a complement

      The Hubble Space Telescope is the first telescope based in space.

      It avoids the distortions of Earth's atmosphere by orbiting the planet.

      NASA launched HST into orbit in 1990.

      Astronomers soon discovered a flaw in the telescopes mirror.

      The flaw prevented the telescope from focusing properly.
