1. Special Seychelles Amphibians

2. There are twelve species of amphibians in Seychelles,
11 of which are endemic. Seychelles is the only group of Oceanic islands in the
world with an endemic family of frogs - the Sooglossids.
The family consists of two genera and four species of frogs (Sooglossus gardineri,
Sooglossus pipilodryas, Sooglossus sechellensis
and Nesomantis thomasseti)

3. Sooglossus sechellensis is found on Mahe and Silhouette.
It is classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List
of Threatened Animals. The adult measures just 15-18mm

4. Nesomantis thomasseti is found on Mahe and Silhouette. It is classified as Endangered on
the IUCN Red List. The adult measures just 35-45mm

5. Sooglossus gardineri is found on Mahe and Silhouette. It is the most common
of the four species. It is classified as vulnerable. It is amongst the
smallest frogs in the world measuring just 11-22mm!

6. The Seychelles Tree Frog (Megalixalus seychellensis) male and female have
different colors. Males are reddish brown and females are light green. This is a male.
They can also change color into a lighter lemon green during the day and darkening to
green (females) or brown (males) at night.

7. This is a female Tree frog. The frogs are nocturnal spending their days hanging onto
leaves or branches.

8. There are seven endemic species of Seychelles Caecilians.

9. They are adapted to burrowing, spending most of their time in moist litter,
soil or rotten logs. Caecilians are carnivorous, feeding on soil and litter
invertebrates.
