Nominee: Logan Salyers
1. Please describe what “character” means to you and why (or if) you think it’s
important (700 characters)
Character is one of the most important aspects to a person. Character is what
motivates a person's actions, whether it be negative or positive. Character is very
important to how people perceive someone. Sure a person could go and do
magnificent things such as finding a cure for cancer, feeding the hungry, or donating
money to charity. But it doesn't give the same reflection on a person's character if
they do these things for the wrong reasons, like curing cancer for profit, not the well
being of humanity. That motivation behind curing cancer would taint the reputation
of that person. People would remember him/her for why they cured cancer, not the
fact they did cure it.
2. Effective leaders make a positive impact on the groups/activities with which they
choose to become involved. Please describe how one group or activity has changed
as a result of your involvement. (800 characters)
2. I am the captain of my school's science bowl team. I have changed our club
into a group of highly motivated individuals. We have a pretty small group of
people. I try to lead by example every time we work. I am there consistently helping,
explaining, and finding out ways to make our work easier. I want my team to
succeed beyond the most optimistic expectations. My team and I work our hardest
every day. I have been a member of the Science Bowl team for two years and I plan
on making my successor to me great. I had to follow up on the great legacy that was
left before me, and I feel like I have improved upon that legacy. I want nothing but
the best for my team. I want us to be the best that our small team can be. I don't
want to be the underdog. I want our team to be the alpha male.
3. Describe the way(s) in which you currently exhibit “physical vigor” – and how (if
at all) you see those changing once you begin college. (700 characters)
I'll be completely honest here. I used to be in excellent shape. I played three
sports(basketball, football, and track). I changed that to just football my freshman
year. I didn't like the people I played with or the coaches, so I switched over to
basketball. I ended up having to quit due to injury. I completely tore my deltoid
3. ligament. It changed my outlook on life. I haven't done much physically since then. I
want to change that. I don't have much time to worry about my fitness. I have to
juggle school and a demanding job and the time just isn't there. When I get to
college, I won't have a job and five days of school to worry about. I can focus on my
personal well-being and my grades.
4. Apart from academic or college admissions-related objectives, please describe
any goals you intend to achieve (or begin pursuing) before you start college next fall.
(600 characters)
I want to be remembered. I want to leave an impact on this school by
achieving something that no other student has achieved. That’s my goal. I want to do
something that will make someone remember me. My idea is to find a way to make
Christianity a more prominent aspect of teaching. Due to the Engel v. Vitale ruling,
prayer isn’t allowed in school. I believe that infringes on freedom of religion. I want
to fix that. I want to change everything for good. I want to overthrow the Engel v.
Vitale ruling and make Christians around the world celebrate. I will work my
hardest to make that happen.

Short Essay: In your opinion, what is the greatest challenge that your generation
will face? What ideas do you have for dealing with this particular issue? (3000
characters)
In my opinion, the greatest challenge our generation will face is how our
society has gotten away from traditional values. It’s an abomination. People turning
gay, abortions, illegal immigration, and radical Islam are tearing our world apart. I
believe that radical Islam is the most prominent threat. Islamists bring about terror
and all they want is “Death to America!”. Organizations like ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and Boko
Haram are going to bring about the end times. These radical groups kill hundreds of
innocent people. They completely eradicate Christianity from their lands and all
they preach is death and violence. It’s pure evil. The United States need to put an
end to this regime of death and violence.
If I were to be President of this great nation and had the authority to cause
great change in the world, I would. I would start by illegalizing abortion and gay
marriage. But I would turn my attention to the much more urgent task at hand:
Radical Islam. I would take immediate action against ISIS in the Middle East by
sending 250,000 troops to Syria to eliminate the ISIS threat.
Our country needs to take a stand against genocide. Innocent people are
killed everyday by these Islamic terrorist groups. These organizations are evil. The
members of ISIS destroy culture, sort of like what LGBT groups around the world
5. are doing. They are destroying our family culture with the legalization of two gays
getting married. In some cases there isn’t a father figure. In other cases, there isn’t a
mother figure. It is a distinct break from how a family should be structured: one
mother, one father, and their kids. I just don’t see how someone can view same-sex
couples as an equivalent to a normal family.
There are a lot of issues in this country: Radical Islam, gay marriage,
abortion, and illegal immigration. Each of them are an atrocity within itself. These
issues are what is causing this break from traditional beliefs. People are beginning
to accept murder as reality. Abortion is one of the issues that troubles me the most.
It’s murder. The doctors are killing a child inside the womb that can feel pain. In my
opinion, life begins at conception. It’s wrong in all cases for murder to be committed.
If I had the authority, I would shut down every abortion clinic without any feeling of
remorse. It’s a profitable, horrendous business.
I think the last issue that is affecting our culture and break from traditional
values is the plethora of illegal immigrants. These immigrants have affected our
culture as a country, as we have had to deal with this plague for a number of years.
The American-Mexican border isn’t secure. Thousands of aliens flock into the States
every year. Then on top of that, they have “birthright” citizenship, where if two
illegal immigrants have a child, that child is granted US citizenship. I would build a
wall to keep them out. This wall would reinforce these traditional values and to have
a strong, Republican foundation for America to grow on.
