3. INTRODUCTION
The J&K Projects Construction Corporation limited.
A government owned company was incorporated in 1965.
The project is about a steel truss bridge which was constructed
between two small villages namely Maloora and Chounchan in
the district Srinagar.
The main purpose was to reduce the extra distance of 1.8 km.
In this project construction of various parts of superstructure
have been discussed in detail which is namely pier, pier cap,
concrete pedestal, reaction block, bearings and other
connections.
For construction of piers, vertical reinforcements were
constructed according to the center line of the bridge and while
concreting, vibrators were used for removal of air voids.
7. TRUSSBRIDGE
Truss is a structure of connected elements forming
triangular units.
The connected elements (typically straight) may
be stressed from tension, compression, or
sometimes both in response to dynamic loads.
Truss bridges are one of the oldest types of modern
bridges.
8. TOOLSUSED
Vibrator
One of the most important steps when pouring concrete is
the vibration of concrete.
Concrete vibrators, if used properly, will reduce the
amount of air pockets inside the concrete mass
External vibrators shall be used to reach the center while
internal vibrator can be used to consolidate the center
portion of the concrete mass.
10. TILTINGDRUM MIXER
Most small batches are of tilting drum type having
outputs up to 200-280 liters(7-10 cft) per batch of
mixed concrete.
The drum is conical or bowl shaped with internal
vanes, the discharge from such a mixer is rapid and
unseggregated.
Generally these mixers are hand loaded which makes
the quality control of successive mixes difficult to
regulate.
12. PIER
The piers generally built of brick or stone masonry or
concrete
like spread footings, piles, wells or caissons.
The superstructure comprising the slab or beam
transmit the reactions to the piers through the bridge
and bed blocks.
14. FORCES ACTING ON PIER
Dead load of superstructure and pier.
Live load of vehicles moving on the bridge.
Effect of earthquake forces.
Forces due to water current and wave action.
Effect of buoyancy on the submerged part of the pier
15. REINFORCEMENT OF PIER
The grade of steel used in pier is Fe415.
The reinforcement in pier is made up of main bars
25mm diameter which are in 35numbers.
Vertical spacing 12mm diameter placed at a
distance of 480mm center to center.
17. PIER CAP
The upper or bearing part of a bridge pier.
Pier cap is a structure that takes the load of girders and
bearings .
Pier cap is mounted on the top of pier.
19. CONCLUSION
Due to the construction of this bridge the people
living around the vicinity would not have to travel
extra 1.8km from Maloora to Chounchan and vice
versa and also because of this bridge.
the distance to National Highway is reduced. As
now traffic can be diverted through this bridge, so it
would result lesser amount of traffic on main and sub
main roads.
