An overview of the activity of Dominican Starfish Foundation in the year 2020
1. Dominican Starfish Foundation 2020
Little did we know that our major focus
for 2020 would be feeding the hungry.
Because of an employment
crisis brought on by COVID-
19, starvation became a very
real issue in the Dominican
Republic and other places
around the world.
We distributed over 20000
food packs during the year to
hungry people in dozens of
communities in the
Dominican Republic.
We initiated a family
sponsorship program and
have 25 families sponsored to
received monthly assistance.

4. After extreme starvation, severe flooding and a devastating
fire in San Rafael de Yuma (near Punta Cana) our foundation
leaders, Amarilis, Luis Miguel and David made the 8-hour trip
across the island to help the community. With funds that we
raised, they delivered food packs, bought furnishings for
those who lost everything in the fire, deliver thousands of
pounds of clothing from our distribution center, purchased
two homes for those in great need and more.
5. Though COVID-19 stopped our home building for
April and May, 2020 was the biggest year to date
for building and restoring homes.
• We completed 12 additional homes
• We purchased 5 homes for families
• We saved 4 homes from foreclosure
• We did home-make-overs and major
renovations on 13 homes.

19. HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
As part of our mandate, we continued to assist many who needed
emergency and continuing medical assistance. This year we
helped raise funds for a kidney transplant, a brain surgery, broken
limb repairs, cancer treatments, diabetic complications, heart
surgery, COVID-19 hospitalizations and medications and several
other medical procedures and treatments.
20. 2020 WAS A VERY BIG YEAR FOR OUR EDUCATION ARM
We were privileged to spend 2 months in the Dominican Republic before Covid-19 shut
down the world! Because our major goal for this year was to find land and build a school
for Youth Upliftment International, we took 10 different groups to visit the existing school.
Just before we returned home, we were blessed to locate a building that we could
purchase for less that the price we had been looking at for land. We found exceptionally
generous donors the same day and were able to purchase the property. We also found
donors to pay for the new roof and other needed renovations.
21. • We continue to support 3 university students.
• In 2020, we donated hundreds of pounds of school supplies to various schools.
• We continue to sponsor for over 50 students in the Youth Upliftment School.
• Even though school was cancelled for much of the year, the sponsorship money
has helped students to take online and home study classes. The funds have
also assisted in feeding the families.
22. THE EMPLOYMENT ARM OF OUR FOUNDATION GREW!
We hired an additional construction manager as part of our
permanent crew. Fernando Crisostomo joined our team as our
construction manager. With him we added two Masters of
Construction, Luis Jose and Miguel Gonell. This has made a huge
difference in the number of homes we have been able to build and
repair. We had a total of 65 local workers who received some
employment income through the foundation in 2020.

23. We were extremely fortunate to receive a $15000 US matching
donation from doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. This was
matched to funds we raised at our annual online auction. This
assistance along with a grant from Gay Lee Foundation will
make it possible to build a second level onto our community
center in Javillar. This addition will be used for classrooms and
medical facilities. Construction will start in 2021.
24. 2020 brought great hunger, sadness,
unemployment and death to many in the
Dominican Republic.
Thanks to so many donors, 2020 also brought
many miracles. We received phenomenal
support in helping to feed the hungry, expand
our building program and assist in ways we
would have never dreamed possible!
